Hi

I was reading the local Hutt weekly newspaper and came across a letter regarding fluorided water and infant formula and the effects it can have on teeth enamel. The letter also made reference to the below website

http://www.fannz.org.nz/huttcity_infant.php

Thought I'd point it out, as it makes for very interesting reading.

articles like that really piss me off actually. Coming from a Pediatric dental background and seeing all the benefits of fluoride. If the water supply in northland was fluoridated the rate of caries would be much less and much less children wouldhave to endure the trauma of fillings and extractions.

Im all for fluoride in the water.

also i must add that the reason other countries dont add it to their water supply is because they have high concentrations of fluoride naturally occouring in their water supply, where as we dont.

sorry for rant, subject i hold close to my heart.

I must actually say that i'm glad i'm in an area where they don't add it. There has been lots of campaigns to get it out of the water supplies in the UK as well (and conspiracy theories that the gov use it to dampen the spirits of the nation].
I'm sure you probably do know more than me about dental care but I would have thought that teaching good dental hygiene would be more beneficial than adding an industrial waste product to the national water supply. Lets face it we should all have a choice about what goes into our bodies and I don't think the government should have the right to spike the water, plus there is plenty of flouride in toothpaste, we know we tried to find one without it in!!!

I'm all for fluoride in water. It's not even a high concentration of fluoride in the water anyway.

If someone is against it when its being used they can always get bottled water. But bottled water has lots more other crap in it than tap water does.

We bought a water distiller! You should have seen the gunk that used to collect in the bottom of that thing

We are in a really hard water area as well- the limescale is a nightmare! We filter it here but haven't worried about a distiller as I'm BFing. In NZ we only bought the distiller as I was making up bottles for Charlotte- once I saw the grot that came out of it though I started distilling our drinking water as well.
