Topic: Fluoxetine....Prozac. Question. Posted: 24 August 2007 at 10:13am |
Doc has put me on this for the next four months as I was getting quite anxious and worried - not depressed.
I know it is all to do with Mark being away working for the next 3 months and Paiges upcoming overseas trip.
My question is I have been on it for about 3 weeks and have started to notice I am getting mild headaches, funny sleeping, loss of appetite & feeling a bit nauseous.
Its not affecting me toooooo much but just want to know if this is normal and does it go away after a while?
Does anyone know?

I found I got bad nausea when I was taking SSRI's, of which Fluoxetine is one. It is one of the more common side effects, and so is insomnia. So yes it's normal, but you don't have to live with it if it's not comfortable for you. There are other SSRI's which do the same job (eg. paroxetine) and then whole other types of antidepressant/anxiety meds that do the same job but with different side effects. I'd have a chat with your doc about it and see what he/she thinks.

I was on Paroxitine (similar drug) and was told it could cause nausea- so to take it at night. I didnt get nausea, but I had trouble sleeping and horrible dreams/ nightmares, and didnt think it was working at all.
I went back to the dr and got changed to a diff med. Im now on the third different one. Both times I had different side effects ( and so did Isla- through my breast milk), and each time it took about 3 weeks for the side effects to really show.It can also take this long for them to start working. I would say either go back to GP, or ring the nurse or Dr and have a chat about these symptons.
Hope its sorted out soon.

If your anxious you shouldn't be on fluoxetine because that increases anxiety, I got really bad on it.
I agree you should talk to your Doc

I take fluoxitine for depression. It didnt give me any side effects. Plus the Dr said if i had any side effects that they would only be in the first week or so.
I think everyone else has answered it for ya lol.
