Topic: For those with NUK or AVENT bottles Posted: 20 October 2006 at 8:26pm |
just thought that you would like to know - that well, quite commonly, many people buy the wide avent ones or the wide NUK ones, only to find that the teats cause probs for baby - as they are too short and wide and just not really that great for feeding - anyway, for those who are palnning on using them or those finding they are having trouble but not wanting to spend ANOTHER fortune on bottles - the tommee tippee teats that fit their wide neck bottles - also fit the NUK and AVENT bottles.. they are like normal teats and most babies find them good to drink with. Just thought I'd share.

I had no problems with them, or didn't think I did, anyhow? What sort of problems would I have been likely to have? (for next time...) I use Avent. Just curious.

Alot of bubs won't feed from those teat, especially at newborn stage, as they are very wide and short, the nuk ones especailly, but the avent ones, while being longer, are thin and don't give baby much to latch on to, to get the milk to flow you sometimes have to tilt the bottle right up to put a little pressure so baby can suck on it.
Some people do find they are fine, but I have noticed alot of people selling the wide neck avent and nuk bottles lately saying that their babies wouldn't feed from them, or took forever or didn't drink much, so thought i would mention that the other tommee tippee wide neck teats fit these bottles and could save alot of hassle and money if your baby is one of the ones that has trouble with the teats that come with the bottles..

oh.. ok. Just wondered... (was thinking about what a huge amount of $$ i have spent on them if they are problematic..) we had no worries, Jake is a guzzler. I found though, for the first few weeks, that a chu chu teat i got from the hospital was best (just had a small random bottle for it)as he hd to work for the milk in a similar way to the way he would have to if he was b/f.

Yeah, funny how the hospital teats are actually really good - alot of new mums when they are buying bottles go for the big ones that look like the breast or are supposed to "be just the same as breastfeeding" but they aren't cos when baby breastfeeds it takes alot of the wider part of the nipple into the mouth and it goes nice and flat and is soft.. the big huge "nipple" teats dont do that, baby just gets the little bit at the end, the big wide piece doesn't go in their mouth, making it hard to get milk.
A fair amount of people can find that the plain old round teats, that come with most normal sized bottles are the best and easiest.

We're using the Avent ones, mainly because when we finally got Maya to take a bottle at 10 mths that's all she'd take, so better the devil you know IYGWIM.
Mercedes is a real guzzler tho, we are using the slowest flow newborn teats and she still manages to lose half the feed out the side of her mouth. Mind you, she dribbles at the breast too, I think she is just a fast feeder.

I use the air flow NUK teat's normal size ones and they are awsome only teats Alan would take with Mikey I really wanted him to use the control flow from tomee tipee he would not have a bar of them so he is using the asme as Alan the 6 month plus ones, but my milk flowed really fast so it would be mean to put him on really slow teat's.

THE NEWBORN NUK dummies are brilliant tho!!! Especially the Silicone ones. So much better than Latex ones!
Its amazing the amount of people who have Latex allergies..I was reading an article about it the other day. Thoses people are generally the ones who have problems with plasters.

It's funny you say that Janine, cxause Taine hated the tommee tippee ones. i had to cut off a little bit of the hole cause it took him so long to get anything, he'd fall asleep.
