Has anyone got any advice on how to choose the best formula for my little Max??
Hes 6 weeks old and i've been mix feeding him as my milk never came in properly.
We've started him on the basic Karicare Formula, and he seems fine on it, but i'm thinking the Gold has a few extras fish oil etc....not sure weather to switch to this or not.

I heard the Nan's formulas are really good....anyone tried them??

Also if you change formulas is it best to wean your baby onto it, or fine to switch straight away??

My Fiance accidently bought the goats milk karicare formula when he did the shopping... not sure weather its a good idea to use it as we've been using the cows milk based Karicare.......

Questions, Questions........lol

Ive been giving my little man a bottle during the day due to thrush and needing to have a nipple break, Im using karicare and Nuture sachets, I switch between the two and he doesnt notice, my daughter was the same when I had to top her up at the start.

Ive always just used whatever was on special and had no problems, wouldnt bother so much with the gold stuff unless thats on special too, Im determined to raise non fussy kids (kidding, just lucky maybe) Not sure about the goats one but Id probably take it back and swop if you havent opened it.

I've found that the nuture gold plus one constipates my baby (5weeks), even though she only has it as a top up, less than 150ml a day. I'll probably swap back to basic Karicare, she seemed to like it more than the nuture; even though it has higher energy levels etc than karicare.
Can't give much advice other than that sorry, I'm pretty new to the formula thing too!

Hi Heidi,

Fergus was on the Karicare plus and we found that he projectile vomited, and seemed to spill heaps up. We switched him to regular and everything is all good now We just made the switch right away, but then again he had been on the gold version for only about 8 days or so.

What did you do about the goat's milk version?

Hi Teacher lady,

I ended up trying him on the goats milk formula, but he was bringing it up all the time, and the smell was really spewy! The spew looked like cotage cheese!
We ended up throwing it out, and hes on Karicare Gold now, ill see how that goes! He seems to like it a lot better, and hes much happier feeding now .

Now to fix the sleep deprivation!! lol dont think thats gonna happen for a few years!

Oh that's good news Heidi- glad that things are sorted now.

Yuck about the cheesy spew!

Is Max being cheeky at night? On Sunday night Ferg slept 8pm-8am- wowie! Normally he does an 8 hour stretch so we were amazed!

Hi everyone,

My baby was born in May 2012. With my husband, who is from New Zealand, we live in France where we raised our child until now. We are coming to New Zealand to visit his family at the end of the month and I'm really lost about baby formula. My son is just about to change for a follow on formula and I would like to choose something very neutral. He has a tendency to be constipated. Any advise? That would really help! Thanks so much to everyone.

Hi Dorothee,

Have a look at these sites:

www.forbaby.co.nz/Baby-Foods-Products/Infant-Formula-Toddler-Milk-Nurture# (Nurture formula)

www.nutriciababy.co.nz/main/nutrition/infant_formula2.html
(Karicare formula)

They are the two main formula companies here in NZ

I have found that it is best to choose an ordinary formula (e.g not a GOLD version or a PLUS version) for a baby who can get constipated easily.

Feel free to ask anymore questions

My son has been on Karicare Gold since he was about 6 weeks old - currently 4.5 months. I tried the NAN HA as he had that when he was in NICU, but this changed his poo to really dark and extra stinky. My dr said to go back to the Karicare Gold. Karicare Gold hasn't caused any constipation for him - he usually goes every day or two. The only thing with the Karicare Gold is that when you shake it to mix it, it goes really really frothy. I hear from others that the Nuture doesn't have this problem. I haven't tried Nuture.
