Topic: Make it stop *throws big tanty* Posted: 22 May 2007 at 2:33pm |
Argh, where does the allergy thing stop? I am OVER it already. I am sick and tired of having to be totally conscious of everything I feed the gremlins, and not knowing where to even start with things to avoid. With Maya it was easy, we didn't know she even had allergies till she had a fairly varied diet, but these two...
At lunchtime Mercedes had a reaction to sweetcorn. As in a 4 mth + tin of Watties pumpkin and sweetcorn (I know it's not the pumpkin as she's had that lots of times). Hives all around her mouth and chin One more thing on the list of things to cut out
And then I went to Countdown to stock up on cans of baby food for our weekend away and spent 20 minutes reading labels only to end up coming home with the same boring old apples and pears that they always have coz everything else seems to have banana or corn or wheat or milk or egg or some other potential nasty.
Plus I've recently started to think that Sienna may not be allergic to anything as apart from the exczema and reflux when she was on breastmilk, she has had no reactions, doesn't have the ongoing dramas with exczema that Mercedes does. So if the tests in July come back that she is clear do I put her onto standard formula and keep Mercedes on the Neocate or keep them both on Neocate to avoid cross-contamination, giving Mercedes Sienna's milk by accident etc. Argh - trust me to overthink things that might not even happen
I am so over it. I did my time with allergies with Maya. Why do I have to do it all over again?
Having a crappy, crappy day

maybe - if the hives arent too bad - you could try her on it again later on and see if it lessens or if it is just a one off.
and you could try that green monkey stuff like the ark sells, that was everything free.

Is that in the corn itself, or is it added to the canned stuff? I've been suspicious of citrus for a wee while now as this bath stuff I was using seemed to make her exczema worse and it was 100% chemical free, so I was thinking it could be the citrus extract in it.

Nope, just my kids. I blame Willie
Most of the time I am pretty pragmatic about it - it could be so much worse, at least they are healthy and happy, there are so many bubs in worse situations, but some days I get a bit down and indulge in a pity party

You are allowed a pity party every now and them - especially with 3 of them! So know how you feel tho. Hannah has had a funny rashy thing around her mouth the past few days - can only put it down to kiwifruit, will keep giving it tho, I can handle a rash! Took her to playgroup for the first time today and realised why I hadnt done it yet - they all sat down for morning tea and on one side a kid had a Le Snak, and on the other side choccie biscuits! Eek, sorry for threadjacking, just letting you know I feel your pain (and you know I love talking to anyone else in the same boat!!.

We had that at Playcentre with Maya, the parents just don't seem to get it. Fair enough, their kids shouldn't have to have boring lunchboxes just coz of Maya's allergies but they never made sure the lunchboxes were closed when the kids were playing and we had one reaction when Maya helped herself to a Cameo Creme biscuit, and one near-miss when she hoed in to someone else's sandwich - luckily it had hummus instead of butter
In the end the paed have us a chart for the wall with her name, photo, allergies and action plan so that it was staring people in the face. The problem is too that so many people *think* their kids have allergies when in fact all they have is a wee bit of exczema and don't realise that even a tiny amount of dairy/egg etc. can make our bubs really, really sick.
I'm interviewing the CEO of Allergy NZ next week, should be very interesting. If there's anything particular you'd like me to ask her, let me know.

Here's hoping she's grows out of it fast!
How about soft plastic bracelets for the girls (or one of them) so you don't muddle them at nights? (or any other time lol)

Hope she grows out of it really fast for you. Yip I blame all the men genes for anything that goes wrong in babies too.
Hubby keeps on telling me that it is my impatience that McKayla inherited. And I keep telling him my part of it just brought her to the hill. Your bit that you added pushed that child straight over. And the egg was there before the sperm so your fault mister.

Emma ... you are so allowed a pity party occasionally! You are doing a great job with all of your girls - just remember that during the hard times!
Have you tried the Only Organics range of food - in jars? Bit more expensive, but NO egg or milk in the 4 month range (as far as I can remember).
I am doing no dairy (cheese, milk, egg .. the list goes on) until Amelia is 12 months, and sometimes it's really hard. Especially with age appropriate bought food in cans/jars. She also can't seem to tolerate onions, so that just about rules out everything containing veges .... sorry for the thread jack there, but just wanting you to know that I commiserate in some small way ....

Aww, thanks for indulging me you lot - but really, you shouldn't encourage me or I'll start making a habit of feeling sorry for myself
Luna - I had a look at the Only Organics stuff but a lot of them contain wheat, which stumps me as Maya was allowed wheat. Am hoping these fat gremlins will be able to have it too after they have their allergy testing done in July. Will be nice to have some concrete answers.
Teresa - they still have their engraved name bracelets on, I don't trust myself without them yet . It's more that I'll have to keep two separate lots of bottles/teats/spoons/plates etc. to avoid cross contamination. PITA. Twins, huh? Who'd have 'em? Thanks for the corn link tho, will check it out now!

I kinda wish I hadn't looked. Talk about overwhelming, that list is huuuuuge! At least I know I'm not imagining it tho, as corn wasn't on the high risk list the dietician gave me. Will bookmark that site and check it out more when I'm in the right frame of mind.
