Topic: Help me with our wedding music please Posted: 23 August 2007 at 2:20pm |
Ok, so I am a bit stuck on music for our wedding. Want to walk down the asile to a song, and so far am thinking "Can't help falling in love" by Elvis, but also quite like love not given lightly by Chris Knox (you know, the vogels bread ad song) and "someone like you" by Van the man.
What did you walk down to? (p.s I HATE HATE HATE shania bloody twain)
THen there is the signing register music. Maybe Van the man here? Or "shes the one" by Robbie or "amazed" by lonestar (problem with that is, my ex bestie - we fell out over a cat, long complicated story had it as their wedding dance and as much as I love that song, I always see them dancing to that one.)
What did you have?
THen the recessional music. Possibly "beautiful day" by U2... Maybe "so true" by the black seeds or "love your ways" by the dub or don't worry baby by the beach boys GOSH I DON'T KNOW.
Another idea was "best friend" by Queen.
What did you have?
THen there is the walking into the reception.
"best friend" by Queen or "I'm a believer" by Smashmouth (the shrek version)
What did you have?
I want songs not classical music, though.
If you're not married, what would you have? And first dance? THat one is doing my head in. We don't have a "song". Leather and Lace? Stevie Nicks and Don Henley? gggaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhh.
HELP PLEASE!!!

ok, for the processional music i had
"at last" by etta james ... then i had the imperial march from star wars for about 20 seconds (thats the darth vadar music to you nongeeks)
for signing of the register we had: "we dont know how lucky we are" by fred dagg!!!! and then also "signed sealed delivered" performed by jamiroqui
for recessional we had "all you need is love" by the beatles.
first dance was supposed to be not given lightly, but the band couldnt play that, so we had annies song by john denver.
i also made a list of songs for before the ceremony started, as i couldnt not include these songs:
amazed by lonestar
how do i live by leann rimes
storybook love by mark knopfler (sp) (thats the theme from the move the princess bride, awwwww!)
believe it or not by joey scarbury
over the rainbow by izrael whatever his name is.... the resene paint one!
hope they help you some, i had so much fun picking the songs to our wedding!

Processional music - At Last by Etta James (snap Lyla!)
Signing the register - It had to be you
Recessional - can't remember! we were in a garden so didn't really have a recessional
First dance - Fiji Baby by Goodshirt
Other songs played by the musicians after the ceremony/during dinner that we really liked were:
I'm a believer (Smash Mouth)
Come away with me (Norah Jones)
Slice of heaven (Herbs)
Friends of ours had Something so true by the black seeds for their register signing and it was fantastic, a really lovely song that just lifts the mood really well.
I've also heard Bob Marley used at a wedding - Is this love - and it was great.
Good luck!

We had a church wedding, so classical music for the processional & recessional. Had Brooke Fraser - Arithmetic for signing the register, Amazed by Lonestar for first dance & our music for walking into the reception was Barry White - My First, My Last, My Everything.
Would have loved Chris Knox - Love not given lightly - but was a bit awkward for a first dance. Can't help falling in love would be quite a nice song to walk in to.

I had enya 'only time' to walk down the aisle to, my sister had that graduation song, just the instrumental one and that was really nice too. signing the register my SIL sang Dido's 'Thank you' which i a song I love and I wanted somethign a little different for our wedding dance so had Van the mans 'I'll be your lover' which is such and awesome song. Oh and my sister had David Greys 'Sail away with me' for her dance and that is really nice too.
Oh and the I'll be your lover song is actually really beautiful, not refering to sex or anything like that. I love the words to it, fit just perfectly with marriage.

Annie I love the idea of 'can't help falling in love' for the aisle and 'beautiful day' for the recessional... Ahhhh, now I've got fabulous songs stuck in my head.
We had 'your love' by the Parachute Band for the aisle, 'without you' by Brooke Fraser for the register, and the recessional was 'I believe in a thing called love' by The Darkness... without you and I believe in a thing called love were both spesh songs for us (and The Darkness never fail to crack me up!). First dance - Nat King Cole, Unforgettable. We had tons of sexy as jazz (and a random long drum solo that J threw in just for me) for the post-ceremony nibbles and drinkies, and for the meal part of the reception, then just a heap of random music for later, and people just chose songs they liked through the night from the computer's harddrive (hooked up to some great big speakers). I will always be grateful to the person who videoed a friend of ours completely plastered singing "I'm blue, da ba de da ba da...." before the mic was eventually taken off him (well, my FIL offered him another bottle of wine to swap with it). Niiiice!
PS: go the Elvis for the aisle, go on! It's such a romantic song without being fluffy. Ooohhhh you know you want to, Annie!

Oh - re Not given Lightly. My Dh has sung that at 3 weddings or friends now and it is an awesome choice. You can change the bit: This is a love song, for x&x's mother to your names if they scan and you are getting someone to sing it instead of the recording. Or to your kiddies names!

One of our wedding songs was Louis Armstrong's "What a Wonderful World" -- it was just perfect, as we got married outdoors. I won't tell you the rest, though, as they were more along the classical lines... ;)

I walked up and down the aisle to the wedding song from ... crap. Can't remember the movie now ... sh*te. That's helpful isn't it??
...
...
Ah ha! Braveheart!! Several people have told me that it made the hairs on the back of their necks stand up ... it's the most amazing music. Actually, now that I think about it, maybe it was the funeral song ... they're the same music, it's just the one version is a little more hair-standy-uppy than the other.
But, it was amazing.
I couldn't have given a toss about the other music, so I don't remember it at all. Aren't I a naughty Ginger? I don't even know where my wedding photos are ... You'd think I'd be more sentimental.

Signing register was Chasing Cars by Snow Patrol
Recsessional was Signed Sealed Delivered (cheesy but was so cool we HAD done it)!!
First dance, Beautiful by James Blunt (unusual words I know, but this song was VERY us and meant something special to us on a trip oveseas we had a few years ago)

These are the lyrics to my wedding dance song, I just love them. The song is was played at the end during the credits of a movie like braveheart, something violet and both hubby and i heard it and thought, thats our song.
VAn Morrison, I'll be your lover too.
I'll be your man
I'll understand
And do my best
to take good care of you
Yes I will
You'll be my queen
I'll be your king
And I'll be your lover too
Yes I will
Derry down green
Color of my dream
A dream that's daily coming true
I'll tell you
When day is through
I will come to you
And tell you of your many charms
And you'll look at me
with eyes that see
And melt into each other's arms
And so I come to be the one
who's always standing next to you
Reach out for me
So I can be the one
who's always reaching out for you
Yes I will, yes I will
You'll be my queen
I'll be you king
And I'll be your lover too

i didnt have an aisle as such - it was at the wintergardens...but i walked out to a song from the soundtrack of randall and hopkirk (deceased) called my body may die.
My SIL played an elton john song on the flute while we signed the register - or before - i cant remember, and we didnt have a first dance...
My SIL's first wedding Seal (his famous song..??) was their theme song.

Ok, just opened up my itunes to find the ones I'd put in as a possibility for our wedding (now you've got me reminiscing).
Walking down the aisle:
Just to be with you (Third Day)

Other songs I liked

- Without you (Brooke Fraser)
- Have I told you lately that I love you (Van Morrison)
- I don't wanna miss a thing (Aerosmith)
- Take my breath away (Eva Cassidy)
- Everything I Do (Bryan Adams)
- More than words (dunno?)
- Kiss me (sixpence none the richer)
- You're the one that I want (from Grease)
- I'm walking on sunshine (dunno?)
- Somewhere over the rainbow and what a wonderful world (Israel Kamakawiwo'ole)

We had lots of Dean Martin / Frank Sinatra throughout the wedding. I walked down the aisle to Pachabels Canon in D because it was really special to the 2 of us, and our first dance was Dean Martins - Kick in the Head!!! I think some of that "lounge" style music is great fun for weddings!!
My BF walked down the aisle to "Come Fly with Me" by Frank...and that was very cool!

My walking down the aisle song was "Even When I'm Sleeping" by Leonardo's Bride. It is a very special song for us so it was fitting to have it at our wedding.
Walking out we had "Over The Rainbow" by IZ
First dance was "The Wonder of You" By Elvis. Our Minister sang it for us, it was so cool!
