    Posted: 04 September 2007 at 11:26am
Ok, I am getting into the swing of cloth. tom has not had a sposie on his bot since we got home from hospital. But I tend to always use the inserts that came with the nappy and have never mixed and matched. I have some nappies that tend to leak....well they seem to wick the moisture away and out to his clothes . At first I just thought "useless nappy" but maybe I can make it better by using different inserts.

Here is what I have.

Swaddlebees with micorfibe inserts....one swaddlebee,2 natural instinct
Joeleze with the hemp/cotton burley inserts
Mummy's touch with a mummys touch microfibre
numerous prefolds

Any suggestions as to how to mix it up a little?

Thanks

Did I make the question too complicated?

Basically I want to know what I should be doing as far as inserts go to keep him dry. I am getting sick of having to change entire outfits many times a day as he seems to leak around the legs and the top...not soak through.

HELP!!!! please

Oops, I did see this the other day and meant to comment but forgot cause Daniel woke up

We always use 2 microfibre inserts during the day and this lasts us 4 hrs usually (Daniel is a mega wetter). At night we use either: a) 2 microfibre and 2 hemp inserts or b) 1 microfibre insert, 1 peapod insert and 2 hemp inserts.

It never occured to me to use more than one insert. I just used them EXACTLY as I had purchased them andnow its not quite working I need to be adventurous.

One insert for us leaks within an hour and I mix and match them. Like I'll use a tweedle insert & a baby harmony one etc.

I have jsut been reading the snazzipants website and wow...what a lot of info. I havenever used the prefolds as inserts but think I might try this. I also think I might get some of their stay dry fleece liners to use with my prefolds as I am impressed by howmuch prefolds holdbut dont like the fact that he is sitting in wet naps!.

My joeleze seem to work well with the hemp/burly insert but my swaddlebees are disastrous with micorfibe inserts. maybe I should try prefolds in these.

because swaddlebees are thinner in the crotch than most other pockets i dont know if prefolds would work as well. i found mine worked best with a hemp and microfibre insert. i had the shaped swaddlebee inserts tho. have you tried the swaddlebees with the joel eze inserts? because it may not be the insert that is causing the leaks. Swaddlebees arent recommended for heavy wetters.
also snazzipants do some great boosters that i still use with my prefolds and they have the stay dry liner on them too.

Hi, I had swaddlebees and tried using 2x microfibre inserts and hemp night insert. best i got out of them was 90mins. We got a store credit as they were just useless. Bub will not tolerate any wetness so has been in disposables. We are gonna try a fuzzy bum when the store gets them in.

I have a mega wetter too. He needs 2microfibre inserts and a hemp insert during the day and this usually only lasts 2-3hrs before he starts leaking.

I find using all sorts of combinations to find out whats best for you would be a good start too. I have noticed that as Alize has got older Ive had to change combo's and add more etc as he wets more.

Goodluck with sorting that out nzpiper

How do you manage to stuff so many inserts in? When I put 2 in the swaddlebees I could hardly do them up on him and he was only 4kg, plus his clothes were then stretched over the nappy and he looked totally ridiculous.

I am also really disappointed with the swaddlebees and so thankful that I didnt rush out and buy a whole package. I am seriously thinking about onselling mine on trademe and using the money towards something else.

I just tried 2 microfibre inserts in my swaddlebee and it made the whole thing gap so we had major poo leakage all over his clothes...that is the 4th total clothing change today....it has not been our best day.

Swaddlebees are made to be trim fitting so they probably don't have the room in them for the kind of stuffing my nappies have. If you want to stuff your nappies with more you may need to try some other brands

Yeah unfortunately we spent all our nappy money on swaddlebees and were then only able to get a store credit, so didn't have any money to try any different ones. Am waiting for the store to get in bum genius so we can try one of those. (said fuzzy earlier but meant bum, gets confusing there are so many).
We went through the whole changing all his clothes 20x a day, and his bedding a lot of times. Not good.

mums and bubs in chch. The women sold me them as she said they were really good, she uses swaddlebees on her own son. She tried to sell me a birth to potty pack, but it was too expensive so we only got 12 of the small ones.
I went through 2 months of trying to get them to work, I was told he was too small and thats why they were leaking, then I was told that I shouldn't have washed them in persil so we bought ecostore and washed them in that, I took inserts back and had them contoured as they were nurture family not swaddlebee ones. I put two of these in the nappy (with great difficulty) and he peed through in a hour. I then put a hemp insert in which I was sold as would go all night, he peed through in 90mins. At this point I asked for my money back as I think I had been more than reasonable and attempted everything I could to make them work. We have used some of the credit to buy him toys instead, and a different women was there when we took them back and she has suggested trying a bum genius as she has a heavy wetter and uses them, they don't have them in at the moment but we are going to try one of those when they do.

she should have told you that swaddlebees are not for heavy wetters. the swaddlebees site itself even advised this. and also the hemp would have needed to have been washed in a bit to reach maximum abosrbency. i use persil on all my nappies incl swaddlebees so that shouldnt be a problem.
I see they have happy heiny and haute pockets in. I would get some of those if i were you. I have happy heiny pockets and i love them. the pritn ones tho arent advisalbe for overnight. and i see she has the one size HH in too now. I would go that way instead of waiting for the other ones.

THat is where I got my swaddlebees from and I am pleased I didnt do the birth to potty pack (I was seriously tempted as they are so cute). I think I might sell mine on trade me and then get some other.

I am thinking of happy heiny but not sure whether to so the one size or the sized ones given that he is a wee thing right now.

How do you know ifyou have a heavy wetter....maybe this is normal and it could be worse

Right now he seems to be leaking through everything so we are frantically trying combos and washing lots ofclothes! It is hard as he doesnt have many clothes he fits yet as most of our clothes are one size up from NB.

Is normally a sign of heavy wetter if they are able to wet through disposables as well, which my boy has done a few times. We definately can't use the cheaper disposables on him. Also you can kinda of tell by what happens when they pee with there nappy off, he's like a fire hose going off (TMI i know). Nappy off time in our house can be a really messy affair as the dog found out the other day when she was rained upon hehehehe .

I washed the nappies and inserts 10 times before he was born as that was what was reccommended but apparently I shouldn't have washed them in persil.
She got me to wash them with washing up liquid and then put them on a cycle without any detergent to remove the residue build up from the persil and this did help them but they still weren't usable really. My friend has them and changes her son every hour during the day. I can really not be asked to do that.

I might give a HH a try.
