Babies stomach size
This may be unwanted advice so just ignore me if it doesn't interest you!
Just before I had Kate I saw a chart similar to this in a Parenting magazine. I know that one of my concerns was that my babies weren't getting enough milk from me before my milk came in- this chart shows how big a babies stomach is when it is born. Lots of Mums give up in those first few days because they think their babies aren't getting enough but this shows how your colostrum is all they need. Obviously because it is so small this food is digested very quickly- thats why newborns need to feed so often (forget 3-4 hourly, newborns need to feed on demand).
Hope this helps someone

When we visited my SIL in the maternity ward they had these little wooden balls on a string that indicated how big a babys stomach was at certain points over the first week or two. I couldn't believe they were so tiny, marble size at first like your website shows. I thought that was really great knowing that.

Yeah they passed marbles and ping pong balls etc round at my ante natal class. Just seemed so strange that they only need a few ml in those first few days.

Thanks Jennz, that is really interesting. I knew that newborns had to feed often, but didn't really understand why - well I knew their tummies were little, but I didn't realise just how little!

We use these alot at work to show parents, they're a great learning tool. The main thing it helps us get across is yes, why baby's need to feed so often but also helps answer the questions about why/when baby will be able to sleep through the night - lets them realise that early on theres no way a baby could/should cos they can't hold enough to sustain them for long periods of time.

That is a great webiste... I'm actually quite nervous about the whole breastfeeding thing. And have just spent ages looking through all the information.

That's a cool site. It's good to see a video rather than just reading a pamphlet.
