Topic: Grrrr some people! Posted: 29 January 2008 at 8:41am |
I was listening to the radio this morning, and on the Egde they do this "Place not to be today" thing, and todays story was of a 19 year old girl who was caught this weekend just gone, driving with 3 of her friends and she was 5 times over the limit! And what makes it worse is she as 6 months pregnant!!! Some people!!!! They DONT deserve children God knows what that has or could have done to that poor baby.

What makes this even sadder though is that she's probably going to be one of these girls whose baby ends up being fine, despite the amount of alcohol consumed... And I'd put money on it that this probably isn't the first, nor will it be the last time, that she drinks during the pregnancy...
Then you have the poor women who have not even half a glass of wine and their baby's end up being effected by F.A.S.

Oh for goodness sakes!what is wrong with some people!!!
and yes she'll probably be lucky and have nothing wrong with her baby , when i was pregnant and living with other teen mums at Bethany (tho i was 20 so not a teen ) a girl came home one night drunk off her face, she stunk of alcohol sooo bad, i had a big go at her and you could see she just didnt care.
This is what annoys me, its hard enough to be a young mum with everyone judging you because you look young with out stupid, selfish girls like the one on the radio making it worse for us young mums who are doing our best to do a good job

Agreed I had a friend who I used to hang out with before I got pregnant with Seb - somehow we both ended up in hospital on the same day having our bubs.
She is now married to a guy who is not the father - and she put him on her son's birth certificate knowing he wasn't. They drink, smoke, (around him) and dump the poor little guy off with anyone who will take him while they go out and have fun - we both used to live in Upper Hutt and I'd see them in town with their flatmate who they'd make carry all the baby stuff and push their rag-tag pram .
They bought him the cheapest nappies possible, which gave the poor boy a nasty constant rash, and were always going around to my MILs across the street when they ran out and "borrowing" our stash of huggies there for the odd ocassion when she looked after Seb because they'd spent all their money on smokes.
The sad thing is - they were on the dole, while we are on the student loan while DF is studying... exactly the same ammount of money, and they have had more monitary family support mostly from her parents - We live pretty nicely because we budget well, save up for nicer things instead of blowing it... It really gets to me how they live.
Thankfully I haven't seen this "friend" since our boys were about 6 months old. I'm hoping she has shaped up when I do see her next... or I'll be so tempted to give her a peice of my mind.
Thankfully I don't cop too many nasty looks - We have a nice stroller, and Seb is always clean and dressed in nice clothes, and I think I look older than I am... but I really really feel for those good younger mums that look even younger than they are.
OK rant over - sorry

lol, I look younger than i am, im 26 but get mistaken for a 15 year old, but when i open my mouth and talk to Caitlyn I "sound" like a mum-whatever that means!!!
I've come across young mums like that, one used to leave her 6 month old daughter at home by herself for hours while she went and smoked weed with guys she met from hot gossip-i know this cos she told me herself, and I know of another girl who is friends with a "friend" of mine-everyday they've been getting drunk at her house, her daughter is at kindercare during the day -but what about when she comes home?
I know so many young mums who are doing a fantastic job, like you and your DF Alia, but one or 2 ruin it for the rest of us
But hows this for disgusting ? my friend was at middlemore recently and she went outside for some fresh air and this lady who was obviously pregnant was smoking, which was bad enough, but THEN the little girl with her says "aunty , have they put that gel up you yet to make your labour start" and the woman said, "yeah they did about an hour ago, im feeling pains already" SHE WAS SMOKING DURING LABOUR!!!

OMG leaving a 6month old at home alone??? I mean I can sort of understand a stop to the shops to get milk if it's 2 houses down and they're fast asleep! But that's absolutely IT. HOURS? I would've called cyfs... I suppose you can't really prove anything, but an anonymous tip might've gotten them to give her a bit of a shake-up.

I've seen this too, it made me so mad and sad at the same time.
You're right there are heaps of young mums (and dads) who are doing great jobs with limited means, of course though it is always the ones who don't care that we hear about.
What also makes me angry is that I have a very good friend who has been TTCing for about 6 years now. She's had one IVF cycle which ended in m/c. She'd make an awesome mum, I hope one day things work out for her. Anyway its so unfair to hear about women who are able to have children, but then don't give a damn about them, when there are so many women who would love the chance to have a baby (and would love and care for them unconditionally) and are unable to.

That just reminded me of when I was in hospital before being induced and the young girl in the bed next to me while I was on the ward for a couple of days was just like this, in hospital at 30 weeks for pregnancy complications but went outside to smoke every chance she got and spent most of her time complaining about what a huge inconvenience the whole pregnancy was to her social life. Made me so mad!
I think there are plenty of young mums out there doing a great job and they deserve so much respect for the amount of dedication they have at a younger age than many of us were even ready to own a pet! Sucks to hear stories like that on the news, I heard it and my jaw dropped. What an idiot.

Yep Alia , she used to leave her baby by herself, in her cot for hours at a time, her partner (who she was cheating on with these hot gossip boys) was in australia on business and when he got back his neighbours informed him of it he confronted her and she confessed, i was still kind of mates with her and my mum used to babysit their daughter, so i told her what he'd said and she said "oh yeah i did, but it was only for a couple of hours each time" so the dad got custody of the little girl, but then HE decided he couldnt cope either so she went BACK to her mum-then she decided to dump her on his mum so she could go up north on a p bender one weekend and his mum went quick smart to the lawyers etc and got custody of the little girl (who was 3 at the time) shes still with her nana and the change in her is amazing, she used to be such a sullen grumpy child, now shes always smiling and laughing like any 5 year old should be
Mazzy, when i was at bethany there was a girl due the same day as me and she had her baby the day after, because she smoked 2 packs a week during her pregnancy her baby was underweight and suffered from nicotine withdrawals, the mum would have a smoke then breastfeed and that was the only time baby would stop crying,we shared a room at birthcare, she got there put her baby in the cot and said to me " this is my baby, im just going out for a smoke ,watch her for me will you?" i was so shocked i could only stare in disbelief!
I should have known something wasnt right with the first girl tho when i saw her wiping her daughters "area" -she was wiping the wrong way!
oh and once the police were called cos she yelled at her for 20 minutes, and when i asked why she said it was because she wet her bed, but she wasnt toilet trained!!!!
Doubledee, stories like your friend who would make a great mum and these people that treat their kids like they are some right, not the most precious gift in the world ,make me so sad , its so unjust
sorry about the very long post people!

Good for the girl! At least she wasn't permanently harmed, and got a happy ending
Doubledee I really feel sorry for these people... I really really want another baby, but it's so much easier to put up with the waiting when I already have my little boy - I feel for the people who have tried for years and no result.
