Topic: Maternity clothes!!! Posted: 13 February 2008 at 9:33am |
Kind of in the spirit of the recent 'when did you start to show' thread ...
When you were in your first pregnancy, when (approx. which week) did you start to buy and wear maternity (or larger) clothes? Was it only when you started to show, or was it earlier?

I am still able to fit my pre-pregnancy trousers and skirts but from memory I think I started wearing maternity pants around 22 weeks onwards. For the top I tend to buy clothes that are one size bigger although I do have a couple of maternity tops that I am wearing now. I am definitely showing alot more quicker with this pregnancy than my first.

I didn't grow out of my usual (size 8) till about 6 months pregnant with Seb. I wasn't showing much at all - I had a bit of a bump, but it was hide-able under my fitted coat which says something! After that it was all downhill from there
EDIT: Though the 2 cup size increase was a dead givaway that I was preggers to anyone who knew me LOL.

I got into maternity pants at 11-12 weeks and made some skirts at about 14-15 weeks. Tops - I mostly wear my normal tops with a long singlet underneath as preggy tops make me look quite wide. I'm amazed at how different people are - making it to six months while staying the same size!

I was lucky enough to fit my jeans, and my work uniform up until 34 1/2 weeks. By that stage my pants were being done up a little bit lower than normal. Had I stayed even a week longer I would have needed the next size up in shirts. I picked up a preggy top early - 12 weeks, as it was on special at an outlet store. My biggest problem initially was the length of my tops because of the increased bust size.

I still wear some pre pg clothes (low rise linen trousers & some wide bottomed t-shirts) but mainly mat clothes. Think I went into maternity clothes at about 22 weeks.

I starting wearing maternity jeans at around 12 weeks - simply for the comfort factor. My regular jeans were fitting fine and probably would have for a while yet, but they were just getting uncomfy when I sat down. Saying that I'm almost 39 weeks preg now and my most comfy pants are my pre-preg 3/4 trackies!!!

I got maternity pants somewhere between 16 and 20 weeks...can't remember. I carried very low so couldn't do my normal pants up under the bump. Maternity tops were all too big right through my pregnancy so I just went with long singlets etc from Glassons. This seasons shapeless dresses etc will be fab for pregnancy so you should find you can get away with a lot of non-maternity tops etc, depending on your pre-preg size.

I started buying the warehouse active brand of 3/4 stretchy pants around week 19. I'm an over the bump gal, so I like to have something with a bit of support. They're the comfiest pants ever! Tops I started wearing around week 21 - man, I'm loving this seasons fashion, they make EVERYONE look pregnant :P

With Ethan, I didn't go into maternity clothes untill about 22 weeks. This time aroud, my pants were hurting around my middle at 8 weeks (couldn't stand the pressure on my tum) so I use a Belly Belt a lot. Have gotten out a few maternity things to wear in the evening when I am hot. Are wearing preg tops all the time now.

Im carrying really low at the momment aswell, so thats why my normal pants started getting uncomfy ages ago, now I cant do them up at lol. I love my stretchy stuff!
I tried on one of ym normal tee shirts the otehr day and it came half way up my tummy nearly! So Ive been wearing longer tops etc to cover my tummy.

I started wearing maternity pants around 22 weeks. I brought a couple of maternity tops, but most of the time just ended up wearing some of my normal clothes with a long singlet underneath.

Okay heres an undies question.
I've bought new undies last week (full brief) and already they're getting too tight. I cant believe the rate my bump is growing lol. What do you girls do? I cant wear things under the bump as it's way too uncomfortable, but I dont wanna keep buying new undies every week lol.. BF thinks i'm insane!
