I've been using a Moon Cup for a few months now but I want to have a few cloth mama pads as back up on my heavy days and to possibly use at night. I'm a bit scared of by those that sell for around the $15 mark each as that seems so much to pay for one pad! I bought one to try off a local lady on TM for $6.50 which seems reasonable - but I'm wondering if I should have a go at making my own? The one I have bought is PUL backed, with hemp & flannel inner & fleece topped - which I like as it's trim and comfortable. Does anyone else use mama pads and have any particulars they LOVE or fabric combinations they prefer?

Greenbeans sell a DIY mama pad kit. I haven't tried it but might be worth a go if you want to try.
I'm fussy and hate the ones that you have to stuff, don't know why since I don't mind stuffing nappies but stuffing mama pads is just silly IMO. Depending on what fabrics you want to use you may need an overlocker, do you have access to one?
You'd also need access to a snap press unless you want to use velcro which might be more bulky.

Stacey sells them and they are so nice - the minky fabric is so soft against your skin.

While we are on the topic, and this is something i am thinking about. Can you wear a a mooncup/divacup overnight or is it best to wear external protection in bed?
Stacey may be back to you for an order tomorrow when my paycheck is cleared, I hadn't thought to look at your site for this stuff.

You can definitely wear overnight.

Oh, I never thought to look on Stacy's site! Oh, they look gorgeous, and reasonably priced too. Maybe when the new nappies go up for sale I'll try a few mama pads at the same time (hint, hint Stacey - any update for those of us desperate to see your new nappies?  ).

I was a wimp to wear a diva cup overnight but when I did do it I had no probs 
As for those nappies, my chiro told me not to do any sewing until he's seen me on friday so I haven't been able to sew like I wanted to. But here's hoping he says its fine on Friday and I'll sew like mad on the weekend

Diva cup is great, it does save a lot of money! I keep ordering them for my site and they sell out so quick. I seem to always only have one left in my stock pile.
The only thing I found is it took me a few attempts to figure out how to get it up there properly but now I've got that sussed its great.

I love my moon cup too and totally agree with Stacey's comments. It can look a bit daunting at first and take a few attempts to get a good fit but now I can't imagine ever going back to tampons. It's so much more comfortable and I love that it's reusable!

I have read through all the FAQ's on mooncup/divacup websites. I really like the idea. The only worry I have is the insertion/removal. But I guess that just needs practice. (I still remember the first time I tried tampons  ... that just needed practice too).

I'm so sorry to hear that you're having trouble with your back Stacey - I didn't mean to put any pressure on you with the nappies. I'm just like a little kid waiting for xmas . I hope the chiro is able to sort you out and you're back to good health soon.

I've sewn all my own liners - for back up for moon cup at night. Really super easy - and just used off cuts from nappies I've made. I use PUL on the back, one layer of thin towelling, and top layer flannelette. I don't have a snap press but just buy those snaps from spotlight that you hammer the two sides together - any idea what I'm talking about? Lol.
