Topic: Baby of the week and cookies! Posted: 19 February 2008 at 6:37pm |
Okay so i know that you think your babies are gorgeous, and so they are...
but i am getting a bit frustrated with people begging for votes for their babies and requesting cookies be deleted so more votes for the same baby can be made...
It just isnt fair on those who dont delete cookies (or know how to or what they are) nor is it fair on those who dont even know their baby is in there that week or those who dont belong to board members (even tho we do have the cutest babies... )
when my boy was in i asked my family members and friends to cast their votes and really dont expect more than that...so why do others.
Oh and why cant OhBaby! stop accepting new entries until they have caught up - it was much easier when there was less babies to choose from and less chance of more than one ohbaby! baby...

I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived!

You'll have to email Kelly about that, Baby of the Week is outside my jurisdiction (thankfully!)

i agree deb - despite the latest OB baby of the week!!
we did it cause we wanted to see how many times someone else had deleted to start with...and Oh boy had they deleted big time...made a mockery and must say the OB mummies banded together BIG time to beat the cheat...yes by cheating admittedly but there was no other way to advance on that...
i agree - stop taking more bubbas in....weird ellas photo was taken at a couple of months old - she is one in a few weeks!

Is someone gonna explain in real simple terms what cookies are and how deleting them leaves you with more votes?
It's a bit stink to cheat on something that's meant to be just a bit of fun like baby of the week... I mean, we all know our own children are the cutest of the cute already!

andie a cookie is kinda like a note on your computer that tells the page you have been there. Sometimes when you start to type in a website you've already been to before, the computer will fill the rest in for you. Well, when you delete these cookies (and you should periodically to stop your hard drvie filling up with them - although many delete automatically after a while) it looks like it is the very first time you have been there. the oh baby competition allows you to only vote once by recognising the cookies. if you delete them, you look like you have voted only once...ad nauseum.
Fair enough comment Deb, but I think that MILF's request in particualr was less about deleting cookies and voting for Jordis a million times, and more about her suddenly realising that while she was saying "hey my kid is gorgeous, vote for her" that there was another "ohbaby" baby there too.
what went on in the last contest bombshell?

I was kinda waiting for a post like this - and if I was braver I would have done it last week!!
I think that deleting cookies so that a particular child wins is wrong, the whole point is that it is a fun competition - and that takes the fun away...

Oh I didn't even realise people were doing that. That's not very fair.
I entered Cooper when he was 2mths old and apparently he won't appear in baby of the week until July! Unreal...
I agree leave the cookies alone. Eat some chocolate chip ones instead.

I honestly just try to pick the "cutest baby" every week... Which is usually just the best photo, as all babies are gorgeous, just have to catch them at the right moment/angle! I think we all know our babies are just beautiful.

I do this as well. It doesn't bother me if its a baby from of the the lovely ladies on here or just a random baby I know nothing about.

basically out of curiosity i wanted to see how many votes this other bubba had as it had suddenly shot up vs all the others....I was totally shocked and appalled to find i deleted 40 plus times and voted and it was still ahead of ella....so while others were voting ella got ahead and then suddenly the other one pulled ahead again....so we did one nite see how far they had gone....WELL i got past another 45 (i think i lost count at 35 properly) and took over 30 mins to do it....to even up with them!!!
Now THAT is serious competition.....given that we got annoyed and we (go march mummies!) banded together....
I do not support what we did and frankly am shocked at how serious someone was to get to that point of deleting and voting...BTW Ella VERY narrowly won despite everyone voting!
must be a better system OB can set up surely?

Hmm, BS, maybe they were competing with you... so only deleting etc to keep up with you - a vicious circle...

Actually that's not hard to find out depending on the coding/database behind the baby of the week part.. if it logged an IP address with each vote it would be easy to tell who is doing that.
