Topic: Strange scan result Posted: 18 March 2008 at 6:49pm |
So I had another scan today. The good news is they found a fetal pole and a heartbeat (tiny) which weren't there a week ago.
However, the odd thing is they dated me at 6 weeks pregnant. I understand about ovulation, implantation etc etc.
However, I got a positive home pregnancy test 3 weeks and 2 days ago which according to this scan would only have been 6 days post ovultion and exactly 3 weeks ago tomorrow my hcg was 126. According to the scan dates that means it was 126 at 8 days past ovulation. That doesn't sound right.
Based on the tests etc I thought I was 7 weeks.
Not sure what it all means though. I wonder if seeing a heartbeat is all that matters or if there is still a chance it is not growing right.
The sonographer said if I'm worried to ask for a scan in 2 weeks time.

But im sure all is well

Yay for the heartbeat!!
Maybe you just implanted really early or your hcg rose really fast in the first day or two. These things are all so mysterious.

Don't worry too much about it. That's what happened to me, although they put me back 2 weeks. The next scan I had two weeks later, I was only one week behind.

I don't know enough about it but have you spoken to your mw or doc? This might be quite normal, I would try not to stress out (haha yeah right) and maybe ask for that scan in 2 weeks if you think that will help with the worry. Are you still having bloods?

when i first had my bloods done with gabriel the dr said to me - you are only JUST pregnant so lets wait and see... and i panicked big time cause it had been at least 6 weeks since i had let my husband touch me....
anyhoo the moral of that little story is that the blood test results are not accurate - every one is different and so is every baby (i thought i had proved that at least 3 times over now)...
BE GLAD YOU GOT A HEARTBEAT FIONA... IT IS GREAT NEWS!!!! i for one am stoked for you. forget the numbers they dont mean diddly squat...

Congrats on the heartbeat Fiona. That is such positive news. I hope all is ok - but I am feeling very optimistic for you.
Have the scan in a couple of weeks to put your mind at ease.
Love and hugs!

Congrats Fiona!
You do whatever you need to do to reassure yourself, even if that means having a scan every week from now to EDD (whenever that might be!)
Stick little one!

I am pleased you have a have your mind reassurred (sp?) with the fetal pole and heart beat.
I wouldn't worry about dates but if it takes another scan to put your mind at ease so be it

Does it match your LMP? I ovulated on CD19 and got my BFP at 8DPO and it wasnt faint either, i had a scan and my dates were bumped to 28 June from 4th July. Anything can happen really as long as baby has a heartbeat etc i wouldnt worry. You could be like me and produce great HCG. Mine with this baby at 13DPO was 527 thats the day before my period was due lol
Try to not stress about it dates are just that, dates and if baby is doing well i wouldnt worry to much |
I didn't have a period between the miscarriage and this pregnancy. But, I got a positive test 26 days from the first day of the miscarriage bleeding so figured I must've been on track. Based on when I bled, I'd be 7 weeks tomorrow.

Ok now here is the thing. I ask questions but it does not mean I am worried. It's so easy to be misunderstood! I am not worried. I was /am just curious.
I like to have full info and know facts, it doesn't mean I am worrying or upset. I have had moments of worry...haven't we all? But I'm feeling fine about it all.
I'm very happy about the heartbeat! I'm just curious about how it all works! Maybe 'cause I always wanted to be a doctor and I find the body so interesting.
Edited to add that this was a response to another post that has no disappeared??? Odd!
