Topic: Cleaners - How much? Posted: 01 April 2008 at 2:39pm |
Hi there,
I am looking into getting somebody to clean my house weekly and I was wondering if anyone who has one could give me an idea on costs?
Our house isn't overly messy, but we are really busy and it would be a huge help to us.
They would only be picking up after DH & I at the moment.
Anyone know how they structure their pricing?
Thanks,

If you advertise, I guess you can set the price yourself. I used to pay $30 for 3 hrs. If you go thru a cleaning company you'll definitely pay more.
Also work out what you want them to do before you call around, as that could make a difference in what you are charged.

We used to pay anywhere between $15 to $30 an hour.
The trouble we had with getting random people out of the paper that were working for themselves was that the good ones didn't stay for long and the others did a crap job.
We're looking at getting one when we get back from holiday too so if you find someone good let me know.
I'm going to ring around cleaning agencies from the phone book when we get back as some of them aren't that expensive compared to private.

Oh and can I just add that if you find a good one they are worth every penny. It makes life so much easier.

My sister did our cleaning before we went to one income.
My experience with everyone I know who uses a cleaning company is crap, so I was pleased to get my sister to do it.
Would be interested to see how many people ahve apositive experiences of cleaning companines in terms of the work they do! (the cleaners were always very nice people, just rubbish at cleaning!)

My inlaws have a cleaner they get through a cleaning company and love her and the job she does. But then they are in Palmy. I'd rather pay someone I know to do it personally.

We have a cleaner for $15/hr. Start low though, then you can increase if you want to. If you start at your highest offer you'll have no leverage if they don't meet your expectations. Of course it would vary from city to city too

I pay mine $60 for 3 hours work, sometimes it takes her a little longer. I got her thru Mr Green, and I her, I would marry her if she wasn't a middle aged Rumanian woman!
Before I had her, I had a Chinese couple thru Mr Green and they were useless, but the good thing with the agency is that if the cleaner does a crap job you can call the supervisor and have the cleaners come back and do the job again for free.
The cost with them does depend on the sz of your house, I have a biggish 4brm so there's quite a bit of work involved.

There really isn't much that needs cleaning.
I think it would take about an hour at most but once a fortnight I want the windows cleaned and the tiles/wooden floors mopped (my most hated jobs) just to clean up after our dogs muddy paw prints.
I'm just tossing up between an agency or a private cleaner.
For those who have them, how much do you trust them?
Do they use their own cleaning stuff (vacuum, products etc) or do you supply all that?

I trust mine 100%, but then she's been cleaning for me for more than 2 years now. I think going thru an agency gives you a bit more security too as they do reference checks, police clearances etc.
Mine supplies all the cleaning products and equipment.
