Topic: What is wrong with people! Posted: 16 April 2008 at 5:18pm |
I have swallowed a bad luck pill i think!
Everything is going wrong.
I just had a bus crash into me and take off!! He didnt stop. Dont think he even looked twice.
To make it worse i had Kylah in the car. It wasnt a bad crash but she was still there!
I was parked, and he side swiped the car as he was pulling into a bus stop and scraped the side of it and pulled the car as he was taking off!
Why is it only the bad things happen to me!
I had just paid $300 to get the car fixed yesterday!

I'd be complaining about the driver to the bus company big time! That is against the law to hit someone and drive off!! And make them pay for the damage.
Hope you guys are fine though (apart from the nerves)

Yeah we are fine, we had gone to get a script for Kylah.. I rang the company and they are going to get the manager to ring in the morning.

Hell yes I would be getting THEM to fork out for the damage and also get the driver done for hit and run coz that is what they have done.

Could it be possible that he didn't know he had hit you?? I'm sure the bus company will be able to sort it out with you thou.

They should come to the party. My friend a few years ago was coming into town and a Higgen's (a roading company here in Palmy) truck was going the other way and sprayed stuff on my friends windscreen and cracked it. She rang them up and they replaced it no questions asked.

I had a bus hit me a few years ago too - I was in the inside lane about to turn left and he was in the other lane going straight through when he clipped the back of my car and took off my bumper!
It was really scary but luckily he stopped the bus (right in the middle of Colombo st, christchurch) and I managed to get his details. The bus company paid for my car to get fixed, so make sure you contact them and give them all the details, time, place etc - they should be able to find out what buses were in that area at the time and look for damage on their buses.
Glad you didn't get hurt chicky!

I'm really sorry you had that happen to you and while your little girl was with you too
I don't know what the bus company(s) are like there in terms of "attitude" (in your city), but I know that some here are shocking! So my advice would be not to rely on them coming to the party with compensation, if they do that's great - just be prepared for things to go slowly.
Did you get the licence plate of the bus or a bus number? The critical thing here too is filing a report with the police that can be forwarded on to their traffic investigations team for your area - this is best done by *both* parties, but most importantly by you. Oh, and don't let anyone tell you that a non injury crash doesn't have to be reported to the Police either (not true!).
I know it's very stressful, and again I'm really sorry to hear you've had to go through all of this! Some bus drivers can be really careless and it pisses me off a bit, they should be trained better than that.

Scary! Hugs! That happened to me too...I swerved over and followed him to the next stop (actually almost caused another crash but I wasn't thinking straight). Turns out bus drivers can't feel it if the back of the bus hits something :(

Thanks Ladies!
I dont know why im having such horrible luck. Everything seems to be going wrong.
They havent rang me yet, they said he would ring first thing. Is this a bad sign?
What if they dont pay?

I wouldn't say it's a *bad* sign, but in my experience bus companies are notoriously reluctant to compensate in situations like this. You just have to chase chase chase, to make sure they don't forget about it or try to sweep it under the carpet. If they don't pay you could always take it to the disputes tribunal or small claims court.

The bus company should have an insurance company that will cover it. Get in touch with yours if you have one and let them know what happened.
Then write a letter. Call again if you have to.
Buses do this all the time in Welly. I only recall hearing of one story where a bus driver actually acknowledged the crash and basically pulled over and added the guy's name to a list! haha.
Anyway, don't give up on it and they will definitely cover it.
