I really dislike my current career and this is another of the things I am thinking about. So can you tell me a bit more about what you do? What do you like and dislike about your job? TIA
Aimee

I am a Financial Accountant for a Manufacturing company here in AKL.

What do I do? Well sit on the internet and chat with you guys!! LOL

Being serious now: I do loads of reconciliations, Staff Management, and just daily accounting things.

This is job is very repetitive, so the things you d will be the same each month. And if you are unlucky like me then you will walk into a huge mess which will take months to clean up. But if you are like me, you will enjoy the challenge. I also got a $$$ rise after 3 months here and due another soon.

Bad aspect is that you are stuck in front of a computer most of your day, then you attend 50 meeting a month and non stop interruptions. But I always wanted to be an Accountant so its all good.

I really don't know how detail you wanted Aimee, but PM me your question and I can help you.

My Dad is a Chartered Accountant and has his own practice.
From what I can see he is always stressed as he has so much work and even when he comes home from work he is on his computer doing more work from 6-11pm. He can hardly have a holiday because people always have work for him to do and are not very patient- they all want their work done straight away.
I have done a business degree and Dad really wanted me to join the business but I really do not want a life like he has. I am not saying that all accountants are like this (works way too hard) but this is just my experience and opinion.
However, all his hard work has paid off and they have their home and a lovely beach house mortgage free. Apart from the houses my Dad is really tight with money and dosnt spend much on himself although they do have plenty of money. All he thinks about is money!!!
Sorry if this sounds negative but I really wish my Dad would retire and buy nice things that he would enjoy!

Topsy, you are righ CA are really busy specially the CA's who have their own business. However if are like me and is just an accountant with 4-5 yrs experience you could earn between 60-90K. Not bad I think!

Edited to say: Oh and I havnt finished my Degree yet...... I only have Diploma and several papers in Degree. I think I am lucky that I am in the position I am in right now.

I would be happy doing what you are doing Roksana. That sounds much better!!!

Sorry if my post sounded like I was saying it isnt a good profession because it really is. I just feel sad for my dad who is always working so hard and having not much downtime. It would be different if he hired someone but he is one of those people who likes to do everything themselves. But you are right, the money is good.
