Topic: If Im not pregnant I have lost my mind! Posted: 01 May 2008 at 4:10pm |
I can almost SWEAR that I am pregnant.
There is a baby in there, and it's moving and I know exact dates, which would mean if I were pregnant I would be due in September and I would be about 18 weeks pregnant.
I have had three negative urine tests, one negative blood test and four periods since January.
All of that adds up to me not being pregnant.
But my gut instinct says that I am.
Can I get an ultrasound without a referral from a doctor or midwife (I'll pay) because since being to the doctors twice now, they have looked at me like I'm a crazy person.
I'm just scared of getting an ultrasound done and there being nothing there and then really knowing that I've lost my mind.
If there is no baby, why has my uterus grown so much and what is that thing moving around inside it? And it is definitely NOT gas. Cause I have that too. D:

yes you can get an u/s if you are prepared to pay but hmmm i think you would have to get a referral from the doc at least and you cant just randomly ask for a scan i dont think(i may be wrong?)

How big can a fibroid be? I may have to look into this as it could quite possibly be one. Do they move around? Are they round? Cause I feel a round thing.
I'm just so confused with my body!

That's what I thought - maybe try finding a heartbeat with a doppler?
This must be so confusing for you! Hugs!

You need a referral from a doctor or specialist to get a scan. We once arrived to have a scan and the doctor hadn't faxed the form through and they refused to do it.

I was wondering how you were getting on. I posted in your other thread, but maybe you couldn't find it lol.
What happened when you went to the doctor?
I'd say just pop into a local midwife centre and talk to a midwife about your concerns, and I'm sure she could check for a heartbeat as that doesn't take very long. And she'd be able to make a scan referral.
I've also been told that urine test commonly show negative after about 12 weeks? That was a few years ago.

I heard the same thing about tests because the ...um whatever it is that sets off the test... eases off after about 12 weeks.
I guess you could go back to your doctor and tell him, if I'm not pg well I'd like to know what's inside because it doesn't feel right. You probably will have to pay ($170?) or else wait 6mos and if you think you're pg, 6mos is a bit long!
Fibroids can get as big as babies

My understanding is that when ur preggers in the early days your hcg levels climb up really high and then after the first trimester they drop off a bit but so long as you are actually pregnant you will have hcg in your system.
From going through an ectopic they can measure hcg levels from 1.4 which is extremely low.
So I'd imagine that if you were as preggers that a blood test would be fairly conclusive.
But I agree with the others, go back to the doc until you are satisfied

And also even if there is nothing there it does NOT mean you are losing your mind.
(obviously I'm hoping there is a baby though)

Yep, they can get up to 200,000 or so by about 10 weeks then start to drop off, plateauing between 20,000-100,000 for the rest of pregnancy so a test should in theory show positive no matter how far along you are.
But that's not to say that strange things don't happen. You could always ask your doctor for a referral on the basis of the possible fibroid, coz if you do have one and it is causing problems you need to know about it, then see what they see when they do the scan, you never know!

I was around 18-20 weeks when I got a BFP with Kiya... I had no idea I was pregnant before that (long story!)
I agree with the others - keep going back to the doctor until you get some answers! You have not lost your mind, but something is not quite as it seems and you deserve to know what's going on with your own body!

I know of someone that got a bfp iniatially on a urine test then got a bfn on a blood test, and thought she was pregnant right up to 5months. She went back to the doctor for some more tests and it was found she had a cyst so I would definately demand a scan so you can find out whats going on. This person did not have scans as she was young and scared and was denying the pregnancy.

If you make an appointment to see 'any' midwife and say you are sure you are pregnant but not sure of dates - they will write you a referral for a scan to confirm the pg and to confirm dates.
But I believe some places (depending on where you are) will also do a scan at full price without a referral - but it is quite pricey.
Good luck - I hope you are and this gets confirmed for you fast.
