Topic: HCG blood result Posted: 16 May 2008 at 2:15pm |
Well I'm now on day 30 of my cycle. I still haven't got af. I have tested this morning, plus 3 previous days lol...and all been negative.
I got a blood test this morning and the result just came back at 52. I know this means positive. But the pathlab lady just said that means about a week pregnant! My LMP was 17th April. And on 7th may bloods said I had ovulated. But doing by when I know we BD'd, a week doesnt seem right.
I go this blood test today by myself, meaning a doctor did not do me a script.
What do you think I should do? 52 is too low isn't it? Should I go see the doctor?

HCG is a funny thing. I think you may need to just wait and see...really hard I know. Get it checked again on Monday and you'll have a better idea of what is happening.

Maybe go to the doctor? Or is it possible you just ovulated late this cycle and are actually just super early in your pregnancy.

According to FF, I am 13DPO. So I don't know if that would change anything? My temp dropped a bit this morning, but not below the line. I did have to get up shortly before this so it probably wasn't accurate anyway. Maybe it would have been below the line had I not gotten up?

I think the "about" is pretty accurate - I wouldn't worry about it! You would be under 2 weeks, so long as the levels double every 48-72 hours everything is fine! The ammount is not as important.

Yeah I would say get it checked on Monday as well. It should double every 48/72 hours. One test result doesn't really tell you much.
52 at 13 DPO would be about normal as far as I am aware.
Don't know anything about temping so can't help you with that.

Thankyou! I am just waiting or my doctor to call me back. Hopefully she gets the message. I'll ask her for a form to get more done.
I think searching online or hcg level charts does my head in. Some say it should be in the hundreds, and some say in the thousands!!
But as you said it should double, so I'm crossing my fingers for Monday.
I am not thinking I'm pregnant until I find out more.
Last Dec, I had a level of 18 and miscarried same day..but that was very low!

dont let the levels do your head in. as long as they double up it doesnt matter what the actual level is adn remember, heaps of doctors dont even worry about doing the hcg level test.
good luck

Good luck Nefertiti! That level is perfect for 13dpo, mine with this bub was 37 (I think?) at 15dpo.

Oh that makes me feel heaps better Maya! Thankyou! Worrying over numbers definately takes up a lot of time! But it is good to hear someone with same sort of levels and to have gone on with a successful pregnancy!
I phoned a midwife and she said to go see her on monday at 10.30 and she'll do a test there and also send me for more bloods. She was very helpful. But she also said 100 for my dates. But in the end, I guess its the doubling that counts. I'm guessing yours doubled ok?
With my last baby (now 8yrs) my hcg was 253 at 4w3d and was told that was low and im guessing im 4w1d...so got a couple days to get up there.
Man.....numbers swimming everywhere lol

Listen to everyone else numbers, now I am worried there really are 2 in there. Mine a 4w1d was 372!!!
I try and ignore the levels.. the range for "normal" is so big and it just freaks you out.
Good luck Nefertiti

Definetly the doubling that is the big factor. I was 486 at first blood test and doc said I was only 1-2 weeks. But my calculations were more like 4-6 weeks, which later turned out to be correct. Good luck with the pregnancy!

Mine was around 70 at 14dpo. Semen can last for up to 5 days. Any idea when you actually ovulated. Are your cycles regular, and if so, how long are they usually?
A single number by itself doesn't actually mean much. What's more important is the doubling time. I'd ask for another blood test just to check that hcg levels are doubling normally.
'A week pregnant' doesn't make sense. Generally women are on average around 4 weeks pregnant when they get a positive test. If she meant 7dpo, then that doesn't make a great deal of sense either as that is generally the earliest that implantation occurs and those numbers are high for 7dpo.
You might find this chart useful. It has average hcg levels as well as what the normal range is for the number of dpo. You look like you fall within normal ranges.
• DPO, 14. HCG level, 48 mIU/ml. Range: 17-119 mIU/ml.
• DPO, 15. HCG level, 59 mIU/ml. Range: 17-147 mIU/ml.
• DPO, 16. HCG level, 95 mIU/ml. Range: 33-223 mIU/ml.
• DPO, 17. HCG level, 132 mIU/ml. Range: 17-429 mIU/ml.
• DPO, 18. HCG level, 292 mIU/ml. Range: 70-758 mIU/ml.
• DPO, 19. HCG level, 303 mIU/ml. Range: 111-514 mIU/ml.
• DPO, 20. HCG level, 522 mIU/ml. Range: 135-1690 mIU/ml.
• DPO, 21. HCG level, 1061 mIU/ml. Range: 324-4130 mIU/ml.
• DPO, 22. HCG level, 1287 mIU/ml. Range: 185-3279 mIU/ml.
• DPO, 23. HCG level, 2034 mIU/ml. Range: 506-4660 mIU/ml.
• DPO, 24. HCG level, 2637 mIU/ml. Range: 540-10,000 mIU/ml.

Thankyou everyone. I'm sure you can understand how I'm feeling for those that had a low level like mine. I am seeing a midwife at 10.30 on monday and she said she'll do another test and also get more bloods done. So hopefully by monday arvo I'll know more! I have had a couple very faint positives with hpt, but not feeling very happy until after more bloods.
Emmecat it won't be long before your bfp! We have led similar paths and I'm keeping my fingers and toes crossed for you!
