i always stopped at around 12 weeks. think its most important in the first 3 months of pregnancy when baby is developing and pre conception.

I am still taking mine as well as cartia and calcium tabs, but my doctors are being careful this time round as I had high blood pressure towards the end of both my pregnancies.

Hey Kellie, my doctor told me to take it right through the pregnancy and gave me 8 repeats. I thought you took it right through

I started out taking it just during the first trimester, but I've started taking it again now to help me not feel so completely exhausted all the time ! I'm not low in iron, but it does seem to have evened things out a fair bit.

my midwife told me to stop taking them after 12 weeks. isn't folic acid different to iron? i am on iron supplements which are ferrous sulphate, and the folic acid tabs i had were just folic acid. can someone enlighten my poor pregnant brain??

Yes, folic acid is different to iron.
I didn't take anything with Kiya, mostly because I was 18-20 weeks when I found out I was pregnant. I took folic acid with Josiah, but stopped at around 13 weeks (when the bottle ran out!)

I'm taking Elevit which has 800mcg of Folic Acid in it and will continue taking them right through pregnancy so in short it won't do any harm but you don't *need* to specifically continue with them after 12 weeks.

I didn't take them very reliably when I was preg with Maya - morning sickness made them looks very unappealing, but I am taking a pregnancy multivit with folic acid this time round and will probably continue it right thru.
