Topic: Best Preg Tests? Posted: 22 May 2008 at 7:36am |
Hi everyone,
Well I think I MIGHT be pregnant I stopped the pill almost 7 weeks ago and still no AF, plus I've been feeling a bit queasy at nights in the last week or so, plus oily skin. We weren't actually trying, but maybe weren't as careful as we could have been. But no change/soreness in breasts. Does it sound like I might be???
Anyway my actual question - I'm going to grab a test tomorrow so I can find out for sure, and was wondering if some tests are more reliable than others? I did test about 2 weeks ago and it was a BFN, but it was a cheap 3-pack of tests.
Thanks

I use the MDS quickcards which new world sell, they are the same ones that the CDHB uses and are suppose to be one of the best for not having evap lines etc. The other ones I have used are clear blue all though I have a had a few that have not worked properly (i.e no lines not even a control line came up)

I like clear blue tests. Who knows if they are more reliable or not though!
By the sounds of it I'd say you are preggers though!

Have you used the other tests in your 3 pack yet? They may work fine but it could have been too early to tell 2 weeks ago.
Or you could go straight to your doc or the local family planning - if you are preg the appt is free. That's what I'm going to do if AF still doesn't show by monday.

Yeah I used them a few months ago when AF was a tiny bit late.
I'm not sure if I'm happy or terrified about this...

ClaireW, it's natural (and completely normal!!) to feel terrified.
I assume you came off the pill to start TTC?
I used the MDS Quickcards, too. I find them to be the best.
Good luck
(threadjack - mrsmojo...you're TTC??)

I know exactly what you mean. I've made no secret of the fact that I want more kids but I'm beginning to freak out, I'm only a couple of days late so it could just be my cycle playing tricks on me, but if I do get BFP how on earth do I tell DH - honey, I know we're waiting for another few months before we TTC but....
I do sincerely believe that whatever's meant to happen will happen and having a baby is one of the most wonderful things we get to do - plus if you do get BFP you have around 7-8 months left to get used to the idea.

No, but there may have been one... ok two incidences this month where the um ah venue meant we didn't have any contraception and the heat of the moment meant we didn't care. But I was already 3dpo so surely it shouldn't matter?! That's what I told DH anyway.
Sorry, threadjack over.

Thanks for all your support. We're not actually trying to get pregnant quite yet - we were going to start TTC in December! I came off the pill to give my body a bit of a break first. We both would love a child, however the money thing is a big worry as we are planning to buy a house later this year and things will be tight...
But like you say, if it's meant to be, it's meant to be.
I guess I should take the test and find out one way or the other...
*edited to specify that we're looking to buy a house, not just buy any old thing*

Yep, it's either going to be pos or neg and there's no changing that result.
I'm in denial and won't be taking a test until Monday if AF doesn't show before then. But then again if I am preg I'm a few weeks behind you anyway.

Despite the fact I am always regular as clockwork I can now confirm AF was just playing tricks on me.
*lets out huge sigh of relief accompanied by tiny twinge of disappointment and a wee bit of embarrasment for stressing out and preempting with a post*
ClaireW, have you done a test yet?

Did a test this afternoon and got a BFN, so I know how you feel MrsMojo! I have to say I am gutted, even though it isn't really the right time for us to have a baby. But now I have to figure out what is causing my 'pregnancy' symptoms!

I know what you mean, I loved being pregnant and having a baby and I'd love to welcome another little one into our family but as I said earlier whatever's meant to happen will happen, obviously it wasn't the right time for us just yet but we'll both get there and in the meantime I've bought a couple of bottles of wine for DH and I to enjoy this weekend.
You definitely should go and chat to your doc about the 'pregnancy' symptoms, it's really important to have it sorted before your'e ready to TTC. Maybe it's hormonal changes due to stopping the pill but a doctor can put your mind at ease and make sure you're all ready when the time comes to TTC.
