    Posted: 25 May 2008 at 7:54pm

Does anyone else get a real bad migraine the day be4 they get their period? Lately I have been getting really bad migraines every month and seems to be right be4 I get my period...

I end up being really sick in bed and even vomitting...

Is there anything anyone can suggest taking to prevent it getting so bad.. Dont get bad stomach pains so much anymore just the migraine/nausea..

Got a weekend away with the girls next month and it is around the same time.. arh!!! Have to get something be4 then to prevent it happening...

Will try and get to the doctors but just curious if anyone else suffers this...

I am prone to many migraines but not as bad as this time of the month...

Pick me! I get them leading up to it though, and sometimes I get Cluster migraines and they suck big time.  I've had mine for this month.  Nothing works for me.  If they get really bad I got and get an injection of Tilcotil and that knocks me out, and DH has to come home from work so I can sleep.

You can get Tilcotil by prescription in tablet form and they don't knock me out as badly as the injection.

Stay away from caffiene, chocolate anything that can make it worse. Sleep!

The nausea before period seems rather strange. The headaches may be mostly extra tiredness at that time? All the best with the dr!

Yes, migraines around that time are normal and are 100% hormone related. Several of my friends have been to osteopaths to get their hormones regulated and no longer get migraines.   I havne't been as I use all my osteo $$ for Elle so can't vouch for it from personal experience but have seen my friends as good as cured. It is a very common problem.

They aren't cheap though.  Talk to your doctor first.  Are you on the Pill, you may find that is causing them.

Yeah it is expensive hence why I haven't gone myself.

One thing to consider is that the liver is responsible for dealing with hormones. If the liver is under stress from lifestyle choices e.g. diet, stress etc, then it can't eliminate excess hormones properly hence you get hormonal symptoms. If you take the pressure of your liver, it can be more effective in ridding the body of excess hormones.

Eating a cleansing diet, cutting out processed stuff and adding in natural hormone balancers such as omegas all help hugely in regulating hormones and hence reducing migraines, bloating etc.

Now if I could only take my own advice...!

Yup I get them too. They start 2-3 days beforehand for me and get progressively worse. I also get nausea with my periods and if its a particularly bad one I wind up puking on and off all day.
I find taking preventative nurofen or naprogesic helps keep it from getting so severe. If your periods are clockwork you could keep track of them and start with the tablets the morning before you're due?
The Mirena has really helped with the nausea and have hardly any bleeding now but I still get the migraines.
