I got a call from my older sister who lives near matamata yesterday. It made me so sad and angry.

They had been out the day before as her kids are at their dads this week for school hols, anyway they went to a friends place and stayed for dinner and drinks etc, they came home later in the evening, to find their house had been burgled.

The thing is, they live on a farm property, and apparently the police have a fair idea who it might be as these things have been happening around that area lately with farms being targeted.      The came thru the back of the property, thru paddocks, fences etc, did over the owners house, cleaned out the freezers with a couple beasts that had just been done the week before - now gone completely, did over the cowshed, then did their worst on my sisters place, broke int ot he shed, stole the chainsaw, used it get in and get to her partners guns and stole them, jimmied all the doors and ransacked the house, stole every last bit of the food in her house (she is an overshopper - her panty is huge and like a mini supermarket with at least 10 - 15 of each thing of everything you might ever want to eat) so at least $600 - $700 worth of food, stole her complete cd collection which is huge - including every cd that ozzy has ever released as shes a huge fan, stole alll the kids dvds, stole all the kitchen stuff including not even leaving any cutlery or utensils of any kind - they even stole her sugar, milo etc containers. stole the vaccum etc (left behind the huge tv and stereo as obviously too big to fit with all the other crap they stole.   And went thru every cupboard in the house, stole clothes and special jewellery, stole special things of the kids... like an awesome remote control dodge viper car we got my 13 yr old nephew last xmas that is his absolute pride and joy that he had on display.   They also took her car.   Then obviously sat around and drunk beers and alcohol from her fridge and left the caps strewn around, her toilet roll which was new up that day was alwso nearly completely gone which freaked her out to know they had invaded her house and used her "facilities".      Most of all, They went thru her pre-teen 11 yr old daughters underwear drawer and had strewn her undies all around which makes my sister seriously creeped out to know these people have touched her young daughters underwear.

I am soooooo angry, so very angry - she only left her hubby a couple of years ago finally as he was an addict, she rebuilt her life from scratch on her own, got herself the car, and gained her independance, had just moved in with her new partner.

How dare a group of idiots come and take all that away from her. She is back to being scared of every move, every sound, she can't sleep, and i know she is heading downwards again - just from things like saying no longer can she be alone in the house, she doesn't want her kids to come home yet as she's had to wait till today for the cops to come fingerprint etc. She can't touch anything, she's had to leave it all where she found it.

I hate that some thoughtless people just don't realsie how much of someones hope they can take away by doing this sort of thing.

To make it worse, they had uncovered her partner's Motorbike - (can't remember what it is - either harley or Triumph... expensive one anyway). She was sitting out on her deck early yesterday morning having a ciggy, saw a ute pull up down in the distance at the end of the driveway where their 1st set of gates were locked, heard people get out, then a voice say "nah, looks like someones home now" and they got back in and sped off.    So of course she is now scared that they are coming back to finish it off, take the big things and the motorbike.

She is petrified. I am just grateful really, as she had forgotten her wallet, and discovered this while they were out when she looked in her purse.   Now of course, they took it as it was on the counter top, but i am so grateful that she did not go back home to collect it.   These guys have apparently been caught in the act before by some poor guy who got very very badly beaten by them.   they found a hay thingie (you know those things like the grim reaper carries) that was just out on the lawn, so they had that even before they got to the house, not to mention the fact that they had her partners guns. I am so so grateful she didn't go home and interrupt them.

GGGGGGGRRRRRR some people make me sooooo dam angry!

That is SO awful, your poor sister! She must feel so invaded... I know I would have a hard time knowing what someone did in my house, let alone the precious (and practical) things that were taken.

I don't understand how people can do this sort of thing without even thinking about the people who own the home they're doing over. Surely they must have a conscience. I think I have higher expectations of the human race than everyone can fulfill

the sad thing is, she had to cancel her insurance when she left her hubby as they wouldn't take him off the policy or change it without his permission since it was under both their names - which he wouldn't do of course.    And being a single mum she hadn't been able to afford another. and her and her new man only just moved in together so hadn't go round to getting insurance together.    That's what i said to her too. "please tell me you got the insurance sorted".. but nope.

I have done some shopping this morning to send, am going to have another look for the same car we got her son to replace it, and get my neice a new MP3 maybe as hers was taken.   I have also ripped all my ozzy cds... (which i copied off hers last time i was there ) and am sending her copies. Not much really but some ounce of sanity as i know her coping involves putting on loud ozzy music, so thought she'd need some.

She did say she had some money in savings, just not sure how much.

I hope they catch the *Insert swear words*...who did this. Surely some one in the area would have seen a huge car x 2 speeding away with stuff piled in the car...surely!!

OH God...I cant imagine what she is going thru right now!! ...big hugs to her

Has she expressed to Police that, they might come back for the rest of the stuff?? they should take it seriously!!

I'm with everyone else on this. How awful to go home to that.
I am seriously thinking of words right now that would make a sailor blush.

OMG Janine, that is so horrible

I so wish I was in a position to be able to help her, but things are very tight for us at the moment.

How old are her kids? I might see if we have some toys and clothes that might be of use to her.

OMG - that is horrible!! Your poor sister to you cause you might need one. Its pretty scary when things like that happen. Hope the police are onto it - just thinking they know who it was isn't going to help your sister feel safer. Is her partner away much? Does she have family around her who can help? She is very fortunate to have a sister like you. Would love to help in any way I can.
People like that are scum!

go to the newspaper maybe. It is amazing how generous companies can be for a bit of publicity - although I can kinda understand your sister not being that into it. Dammit, just dumped a heap of sheets and stuff too.

Your poor poor sister...am now trying to think if there is anything we have that could go her way.....

That's just TERRIBLE!!
And to think they came BACK!!!
What kind of fool would rob a place blind, then come back for more the following day...
SURELY they'd know the cops would already have been alerted?!?!!

I'm sorry to hear this..
I'd love to be able to help, but we just did a massive clean out of stuff and gave it to some family and friends.
But I'll put word around to see if I know anyone that can help.

Perhaps ladies can tell their local coffee groups? Try and get word out..

*hugs* to you and your family.

Could we perhaps send her some Grocery Vouchers? Whats the local supermarket down there, I would like to help her if that's ok??

Is there anything else that she needs that we could help her with? Clothes? I've got some kitchen pots and pans etc that I don't use anymore... does she need those???
