Well I was reading "up the duff" last night and in her blog she said that when she sneezed she wet herself. I don't want this to happen so though i would get onto doing those.

A friend of mine said she wished she hadn't done so many as it actually made the birth harder - muscles were too tight or some such thing. Personally, I don't do them - they bore me and I feel like a plonker. But thats just me! I'm pretty lazy at the best of times!!

That's ture about feeling like a plonker My midwife told me that doing the exercises would strengthen the muscles and therefore your "fu fu" would contract back quicker after your darling boy/girl stretching the bejeezes out of it.

Have a leaflet which reads as follows:
"If you feel unsure whether you have identified the correct muscles try to stop your flow when passing urine, then restart it. Only do this to identify the correct muscles to use - this is a test NOT an exercise."
Hope this helps.

It is quite easy to find time to do them. Why you are sitting and typing on Oh Baby you can be doing them at the same time, or after you have been to the toilet sit there for an extra couple of minutes and do two sets of five. This is how I did mine, it is not that they take a lot of time or energy it is just remembering to do them.

You have to be really, really careful doing them on the toilet - contracting your pelvic floor muscles when passing or having just passed urine can cause urinary tract infections.
I have never been that great about doing mine, but when I saw a continence physio (for pre-existing bladder probs) she used this bio-feedback thingie to check my pelvic floor muscles and said they were excellent. Must be just luck, coz it sure aint from diligence with the exercises!

Yup what she said but also what Maya said...it is a test only to make sure you do have the correct muscles...
I'm slack on doing mine but I try to remember to do them through out the day...and I don't mind admitting that coming VERY close to a few embarrasing incidents when coughing or sneezing has provided GREAT motivation!
And if you want more motivation to do them...your hubby will love you forever because flexing those muscles during s*x WILL drive your guy wild!

lol Paws
Post-birth control of pelvic floor muscles (or lack of control) scared the crap out of me... I try to do them... but hardly ever do!
Anyway, within a couple of days after han I had regained control so not too worried anymore

ok, this might sound a bit weird to others but i was told about these ball things designed to strengthen pelvic floor muscles. they sell them in sex shops and i was thinking maybe they'd be good for post childbirth? (after healing etc, for getting tone back) i'm too scared to go and investigate because i'm so obviously pregnant now and don't want anyone thinking i'm doing kinky things while with child, lol!

CaraMel, I've seen something similar advertised in parenting mags...was a little dubious about it to be honest!

those ball things you get in the sex shops are suppose to give you an orgasism from what I hear but I guess that could just be an added bonus! (try trade me, the probably sell them if you dont want to waddle into a sex shop) I have seen something advertised in parent mags too. I was always known for how many times I go to the toilet, it was a family joke but after having Kobe Ive been better than ever, hopefully after this baby things improve again.

I think they're called 'ben wa' balls, if you are thinking about doing a search for them

I've seen pelvic floor system thingies advertised too, I think in Little Treasures? They look a little freaky to me!
I've always had a bad bladder, it got worse during and after having Maya, and this time it is playing up again too. I am on antibiotics evey day until baby is born - which seems like forever!
