i was reading another thread yesterday and have decided to do what lilfatty does and make my food up the night before.

i'm always waiting til i'm actually hungry to eat and then i just grab whatever i can rather than make something...hence i'm not loosing any weight

but my problem is i can't think of things to eat that are good for me. i have the usual rice crackers, rice wafer thingees and fruit, but would love to have something different for a change.

i have 5kg to loose before october!!!

so give me some ideas ladies......what sort of foods do you eat?

I've lost 2kg in 10 days just by exercise and cutting out so many snacks.

I've become a big fan of hummus on crackers. It's yummy and a really easy snack and I think about what I wanna eat for lunch etc at the beginning of the day

My belly is what annoys me too. I'm finding cardio is slimming it though. It's just the slowest part to trim down

I fell into a horrible habit of deciding that because I was exercising, I could have what I wanted. hope you're not in that mindset!

I find that a really great interesting snack is a mini fresh fruit salad. I give Ashlee half each of an orange, kiwifruit, apple and/or banana (bit of a mix of everything, whatevers in the kitchen) then cut up the other halves for myself, put it in a pretty bowl (seriously, the dish you eat it out of is most important too!) and it feels like a real treat. You could even add a couple of chocolate chips or something on top or even yoghurt to dip in. A little bit of prep goes a long way in making the right choices!

One of my rules when I'm craving snacks is drinking a glass of water first. I also try to eat a piece of fruit before anything else.
I have a bad habit of buying bad foods when I'm out and about, so I keep muesli bars and fruit in my bag to eat if I get hungry.

OMG I am in that mindset Kirst and it is so bad. I am going to do what Mel does from now on and have more water and I really need to lose some of this excess I have hanging on me.

I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived!

Either fruit or yogurt. If there are biscuits and things around I tend to eat them so don't buy them.

Drink loads of water!! or add lemon if you are sick of drinking plain water. That really helps and makes you feel fuller.

Fruit

If you have fruit, have some raw mixed nuts with it, as it will slow the release of sugar into your bloodstream and give you more sustained energy.

How much water are you drinking a day? I find if I don't keep up to my 'minimum' then my weight loss slows right down.

Cardio *is* slimming but building muscle is beneficial too, the more toned your muscles are, the more efficiently your body will burn fat when you do get to those cardio sessions.

I could offer a few more suggestions, but they'd all probably seem reasonably boring!

Smoothies are great as they're really fulling but good for you ....I guess that depends how you make them though. My fav is banana with vanilla yogurt, honey and calci-trim milk. But yeah water is great, a few years back when I needed to loose 5kg I cut out all other drinks and only had water (hot or cold), could still eat what I wanted and the weight dropped off.

Good luck

Ah yes that reminds me Sara, hot water - or warm at least... it's far easier on your system and makes it easier for your stomach to digest what's in it, and if you have a glass of warm water first thing in the morning with a bit of lemon juice in it, it will give you an extra boost.

I have:

2 x corn thins with light cream cheese (80% less fat than butter or margarine) and a slice of shaved ham and a couple of slices of tomato.

or

A couple of pieces of fruit (usually an apple chopped into pieces and an orange or banana)

or

yoghurt and a piece of fruit

I always keep a packet of corn thins on hand, they're easy to snack on between meals.  I also drink a lot of herbal and fruit teas as well as water.  I've managed to get myself down to a size 8 again (loose fitting too) and am now just working on firming everything up and maintaining my body weight.

BTW.  Muesli bars are great for every now and then but they're packed with kjs so I'd keep them as a treat or go for the weight watchers brand.  Also low fat milk is filling, full of calcium and a great drink for after workouts.  According to a recent study drinking skimmed milk after exercise may promote recovery and rehydration better than water or an isotonic sports drink.  Here's the link: http://www.nutraingredients-usa.com/Research/Skimmed-milk-better-than-isotonics-for-post-sport-rehydration

i keep a bottle of water in the fridge and i fill up my pump bottle from that because i hate water straight from the tap. am trying to take pump bottle with me everywhere so i can sip on it all day. i find i drink water quicker that way rather than having a glass here and there

Do you like oats or oatmeal Vanessa? The reason I ask is that whilst Weetbix is still probably a lot healthier than other cereals on the market, it is still a refined food. Oats are easier to digest, and really satisfying on a cold winters morning too - you can soak them overnight if you want to soften them up a bit before cooking, and then top with some raisins and seeds or chopped nuts, and of course milk!
