dad’s to be poem

hhhm wait there a second.

Here's one for a father and son....

In my arms I hold you
my newborn baby son;
Thinking of tomorrows
and all that must be done.

I’ll raise you strong and proud
and teach you all I can;
When my job is finished
the world will see a man.

You’ll learn that life is hard
but filled with happiness;
That a pure and kind heart
is fated for success.

I’ll teach you to be true
and how to be a friend;
When to hold your head high;
and when to give and bend.

Though someday I’ll be gone
we’ll never be apart
Anytime you need me
just look inside your heart.

Keep with you these lessons
and always strive to learn;
Pass them onto your son
and his son in return.




What Makes a Dad

God took the strength of a mountain,
The majesty of a tree,
The warmth of a summer sun,
The calm of a quiet sea,
The generous soul of nature,
The comforting arm of night,
The wisdom of the ages,
The power of the eagle's flight,
The joy of a morning in spring,
The faith of a mustard seed,
The patience of eternity,
The depth of a family need,
Then God combined these qualities,
When there was nothing more to add,
He knew His masterpiece was complete,
And so,
He called it ... Dad


My Daddy's Hands

When I come into the world
And reach for your strong hands,
My tiny fingers know you,
Before I can understand.

Your hands will proudly hold me,
And smooth my newborn hair.
They'll grow to love and tickle,
And toss me in the air.

Your hands will be the teachers,
That catch and throw a ball.
That steady my two-wheeler,
And soften each new fall.

Your hands will be the guideposts,
That set and keep the rules.
Offer good advice and wisdom,
And cheer hard work in school.

Your hands will be my anchor,
When I leave my childhood home.
Shake my hand and pat my back,
As I live life on my own.
One day I'll have a child,
And come to understand.
The power of love,
Held in my Daddy's hands.

I love the Daddys hands one - I think I may give that to DH on Sunday!

They're gorgeous - will have to give dh one on father's day too. No doubt it'll bring on a tear or two Thanks!
