Topic: When did you finish work? Posted: 17 October 2008 at 11:53am |
Just wondering how many weeks you were when you finished work? I suppose it depends on what kinda job you have. I was thinking I would cut back my hours to 4 days a week from 28 weeks and finish around 35 weeks? This is my first baby so I guess I will have to see how things go. One of my colleagues came to work in the morning went home with pains and had her baby at 3am the next day at 31 weeks! So I guess that goes to show not anything goes to plan!

I finished at 36 weeks, worked full-time up to then. It was really hard, I was over it by the end, but I'm a teacher and wanted to finish up the end of term/end of the year. I was doing the bare minimum by the end, luckily my class were older and understood and looked after me! Lol.
But then I didn't find pregnancy very easy on my body, had a lot of aches and pains and swelling and exhaustion... some people find they feel really good in pregnancy so maybe it's not as hard for them at the end.
I would have loved to have worked 4 days a week, I think it's good if you're able to do that.

With Ollie I worked full-time up to 35 weeks, but then I have a desk job and my workmates were more than happy to run around after me if I needed it.
With Lilia I finished up at 28 weeks (or thereabouts) as I was really exhausted. I think it was the best thing for me to do as I felt so much better throughout the rest of my pregnancy. I ran into a workmate just a couple of days prior to giving birth to Lily and she commented that I looked so much better at the end of my pregnancy that I had when at work!
Sounds like a great idea to reduce your hours if you can

With Andrew I was working 40 hours a week and sitting on my butt all day. I had planned to finish at 36 weeks, but at 32 weeks I had to reduce my hours to 30 hours as I was starting to develop pre eclampsia. I finished work at 36 weeks and was in hospital the week after and delivered Andrew at 39 weeks.
Josh I was only working 2 days a week and I finished work at 34 weeks as I hated it there.

With Amy I worked until 37 weeks - that meant that I got Easter and Anzac day in my last 2 weeks but it was hard even doing a desk job - my hands and feet were really swollen from sitting at a desk all day. I was so happy to finish.
With Sophie I was a SAHM so the day that she was born I was at our usual Thursday coffee group (at the playground and Amy insisted I go on the seesaw with her) Luckily DH took the day off and was driving as I was in the early stages of labour!! Sophie arrived at 6pm that night!
I am was the same as you Mummydee - I was so much fitter and healthier 2 time even though I was tired (no sitting around and relaxing with a 20 month old) probably explains why Sophie arrived only15 mins after we got to the hospital

i finished exactly a week before i was due, i was only working part time but it was all standing and my back got soooo sore
i think the standing contributed alto to having restless legs syndrome also

With the older two I finished at 38 weeks, and they were born exactly at 40wks.
I finished at 36 weeks and Cooper arrived at 39 weeks. I wish I'd finished earlier.

I finished at 35 weeks (after doing 4 days from about 30 weeks) and then didn't have Luke until 9 days overdue... was a long wait! But am glad I had that time to get myself sorted. Was very tired and starting to have BP issues as well.

I worked full time up until 37 weeks. I was fine, and thought I could have done another week, but during my last week I was really pleased to be finishing then.
DD was born on her due date, so I had to whole 3 weeks off to prepare, which was just right.
I was sitting all day, and found those ergonomic kneeler chairs really good for about half the day. Work hired it for me and it wasn't expensive. I had a health and safety desk assessment and they made quite a few changes to ensure I would be comfortable. I also had a wee snooze in the sick bay or on the boss' couch some afternoons!

I worked full time (I use that term loosely - upwards of 50 hours a week) up to 37 weeks.
I had HAD it by my last two weeks though (think retail, standing all day, Christmas time).
Hannah came a day early, so I had three weeks to relax - I think that was perfect.
Not too short, not too long (so I didn't get bored).
But as you said, not everything goes to plan

Funny story my one!
I had been working at my job for quite some time, and sadly they were unable to extend my contract.
My last day was December 23rd 2004, the very day i found out i was pregnant with Charlotte.

My plan was to work fulltime to 28 weeks then use anual leave to cut down to 4 days per week up to 37 weeks, but i ended up working the day I had Fay and still having 2 week left to go to get to 37 weeks. Fay was born at 35 weeks. I was really tired at that point and felt so big and heavy, may be cos I was so close to haiving her. I was working a full clinic load too so pretty much on my feet 9 hours a day

I worked till 36 weeks as a practifce nurse so that was a ful day on my feet and really struggled for the last few weeks. I used to change the sheets on the patient bed and sleep thru my lunch breaks just to keep me going to 5.30pm. After finishing up at 36 I thought I would have some time to relax but Alize had other ideas and arrived at 37 weeks exactly. Next time round I plan on leaving about 35 weeks giving myself time to be lazy and enjoy the pregnancy, even if I do feel like a whale. Rather a whale at home watching crap tv laying on the couch all day, then a whale at work smacking your tummy into every patient you have lol
