Topic: Mini laptops/netbooks anyone got one? Posted: 26 October 2008 at 7:05pm |
OK, so I really want to get a laptop, but have a pretty grunty computer and am having trouble justifying it (even to myself!). BUT I want something I can use around the house, not just where the computer is(in our bedroom).
Does anyone have a mini laptop or netbook? I just saw these today thought they might be what I need - around $300-$400 for internet/email/word processing etc...
Thoughts from those in the know..?

I have a laptop but its the same size as all other laptops...
Have they made them even smaller at really cheap prices???
My laptop was bout 2thousand nearly, and it wasnt even the best one in the shop.

They are smaller in size, but mainly means they have smaller memory and less functions.
I think

Oh ok, so just a basic laptop.
Well i think they may be a good investment if you dont want something with a lot of room for movies or music, but if its just for basic word processing stuff than it may be an idea, you can take laptops anywhere these days, and plug them up to the internet so much easier then a computer, IMO.
But its up to you lolz
I did a lot of research before i got my laptop and so far i havent regretted it

Hey Bel, not sure if you are interested, but we got our laptop from Dell On-line, cost us $800 and it suits our needs which is just MYOB for our business, email and for going on the internet. Its nothing flash, but DH has an IMac here for all his design stuff that I can use aswell.
Not sure if you are wanting to spend that much but just thought I would let you know.

I saw them on breakfast one morning. They look quite good if you just want really basic stuff. But they do have a much smaller keyboard than a normal laptop but I guess that only matters if you have biggish hands/fingers

your other option if you want something simple but also want room for music and movies etc is just to get an external hard drive to store all that stuff on. you can just plug it in when you need it

Second getting the external hard drive, we'd be lost without ours.
I've seen the mini laptops, but don't know anything about them... have you checked the consumer website? Or know anyone who is a member that could check for you?
OT - Congrats on your little girl!

Yes i totally agree about the external hard drive....
I dont have a small memory on my laptop but it does help so much if you have large files or like me love your movies haha.
I so recommend the external hard drive either way

Yeah I have the external harddrive already with my normal computer, so that is not a problem.
Mel - thanks!
