Topic: How much is too much?! *TMI* Posted: 27 October 2008 at 8:35pm |
Hey everyone,
I'm having a suspected early m/c... period was due about today.
How heavy a period should I be having?
I've been wearing pads since the AF and cramps started yesterday afternoon cos I wanted to make sure everything came out easy... sorry TMI!
Today I've been filling up a pad, and sometimes spilling over within 1-1.5 hrs, is this really bad?
Just feels like it's ALOT for such an early loss ???
The cramps aren't so bad today, but have been taking regular panadol.

Hi Wishin
That does sound like an early m/c, I bled like that with my one (it was also "suspected" but there was a pretty big "clot" so I'm convinced in my mind) - I was saturating a super pad in 2 hours. Obviously it reduced over time but it took two hours for the bleeding to stop.
Stick with the pads, as icky as they are, because you will have quite a clean-out and it's probably best to keep away from tampons just like after you have a baby you are supposed to keep away from them for the first bleed.
Just be aware that your hormones will drop off in the next couple of days and you may get emotional over everything. (& It's ok to grieve as well.) You will bounce back not long after, so don't let it worry you. *big hugs!*

When I was miscarrying at my heaviest bleed I was changing pads around every 2 hours. The bleeding was quite heavy and was stringy/clotty kinda blood (sorry TMI). Having said that, I didnt have much cramping until after the D&C.
Im so sorry you are going through this hun My thoughts are with you.

Mine was heavy for a couple of days then faded off into nothing. It was all clotty which I think made it look like it was worse than it was and didn't help with absorbency - doesn't that just sound nice lol.
If you are concerned though get a check up

Firstly hugs hun! Not a nice thing to have to go through.
I don't know about m/c, but for most bleeding if you are changing super anything (pads/tampons) in less than an hour, you should see a doctor, so it does sound like an early m/c. I got really heavy bleeding the other day with my suspected m/c (failure to implant only).
I hope it all calms down soon for you as its not nice having to have that much bleeding, let alone wearing pads (btw those maternity ones are really good if you need them, feel like surfboards but they're really absorbent).

I agree with Emz, if you're soaking a pad in an hour then you need to see a doc and fairly urgently.

Sorry you're going through this wishin... it's weird but with my m/c I didn't need to change my pad that much, about twice a day if I remember rightly (and I was technically 7 and a half weeks preggy). And I didn't have much cramping either. In saying that though, my next "AF" lasted for three weeks so perhaps it didn't all come out straight away... And my last AF before getting preggy this time was REALLY heavy, only lasted 5 days though. *sigh* bodies, they can be so confusing can't they?!
Hope your bleeding settles down really soon and you can get back to TTC and have a nice sticky baba!

I have had early losses and bleeding was up to 21 days and quite heavy. Rule is get yourself checked and if you want it to happen naturally then you can. Just if it soak a pad in 2 hours get checked again and if you have any flu like symptoms or get a fever go to a hospital immediately as it is an infection and you will need intervention.
Sorry you have to go through this.

Thanks Mel
Well I had to go to work yesterday and today unfortunately... was a bit of a distraction but wasn't the nicest with the physical goings-on... would have much preferred to have lounged round and watch DVDs or something instead.
Doing MUCH better today, the heavy "clotty" bleeding eased off at lunchtime and am just spotting now so it has definately lightened my mood.
Thanks for all your replies and support

wishin its not fair aye! I hope things are settling down for you. my first mc i bleed for about 5 weeks the first two light spotting then a couple of days where nothing then I'd just flow like a water fall - I was out walking and next think blood everywhere (sorry TMI!). Then clots a few days later and light bleeding for a few weeks. With second MC just bit of bright red bleeding, no heavier than AF and then a couple of big clots. 3rd mc just bright red bleeding bit heavier than AF and smaller clots. So guessing it can always be different, however I have always been told if heavy see doctor.

I am glad things have calmed down a bit now hun. Hope you are get spoilt rotten.
My thoughts to your man too. I know mine pretended to be ok so he could stay strong for me, but I heard him crying a couple times when he thought I couldnt hear. That was the most comforting thing anyone did for me, just knowing he was hurting too.
Take care of yourself hun, and you know where we are if you need to talk.
