Well following on from my post last night re: Lucas having an allergic reaction to his antibiotics - today we went to the Dr. and she referred to it as a 'delayed reaction' (not delayed IMO, he came out in the rash literally minutes after his 2nd dose yesterday at dinner time and was still coming out in hives this morning...more like continuous reaction).

Anyway she did a thorough medical check and his tonsillitis seems to have cleared (she claimed just the 2 doses could have done the trick ) and she gave us antihistamine to take ASAP to stop the rash from spreading etc...

So he took that early afternoon, had a 4 hour nap (soo not like him) and then woke up and ARGH he's coming out in a rash again ...blotches here there and everywhere, not as many hives as before but rashy all the same. WTF

I can't give him anymore antihistamine as its 1 dose per 24 hours. He still seems happy but I guess it's bugging me because we've gone from him having absolutely clear skin, no rashes - not even a nappy rash in his life; now to a blotchy we itcherella. I'm *scared* that he's going to turn into me, allergic to nearly everything, eczema and dry skin on a daily basis, asthma ...anaphylaxis. 18 months was when I started to show all the signs and my egg allergy was first picked up.

Other thing is he hasn't eaten in 5 days now, he will take a bite here, a bite there but no REAL food ...just breast milk and the odd drink of cows milk and a little bit of water (mission to get him to take liquids other than breastmilk too). He's been given the all clear medically soooo can't blame the throat for his lack of appetite! Tis sad because was only a fortnight ago that he started eating and drinking so so well.

Sorry, post is a bit over the place. Rashes are soo not cool. I just don't understand how he can all of a sudden come out in a rash again, its been over 24 hours since the last dose ...he's had antihistamine - strange....

Edited several times due to crap england

James reacted to his antibiotics exactly how you have explained lucas's and it was like his third dose of that course and had had them before. I do remember it takes awhile for the antihistamine to work and he was still rashy for a couple of days after his first dose.

Oh Steph, how frustrating for you.
Hope he is feeling ok. Are you happy with the diagnosis cause if not, would a second opinion be worthwhile?

There are a couple of staph virus' that were going around over winter in NP that presented with sore throat and a rash, Olivia caught it and it was pretty ick. I think she was out of action with food for about a week? Stink that your Dr is no help.
