Topic: Eeeek! Theres a mouse in my house! Posted: 06 May 2006 at 8:47am |
And Willie thinks it is absolutely hilarious that I am so scared of it. I'm completely easy with insects, spiders and stuff, but little furry things are a different story. I had nightmares all night of standing on it when I get up to go the toilet (frequently).
Willie has ordered me to go and get a trap today. I don't know how I feel about that. I mean, I don't want it in my house, and I certainly don't want it breeding, but at the same time I don't want to kill it neccessarily, and even worse, I don't want the trap to go off when he's not here to deal with the mess. Yuck!
My dad reckons I'm slowly losing it. He said the poor mouse has probaby been here forever (we have a vacant lot next door with very overgrown grass) and we only just spotted it.
But ewwwwww, my skin is crawling just thinking about it...

Hey Emma, you can buy traps that just "trap" the mouse in so they can't get back out but doesn't kill them. Ewww gross story, my sister lives on a farm and their cat regularly brings fieldmice in but doesn't kill them, just lets them go. Anyway they noticed some mouse poo somewhere and put down one of these traps (they must be quite big) then the next morning went to check it and ther were 8 mice in there!!!! Ewwwww *skin crawls*!!! I'm sure you can buy the traps at Mitre 10 or somewhere. Good luck, mice are disgusting little things!

Yup, that's exactly the trouble with cats - ours do it ALL the time, or at least they used to in our old house... the last one was completely intact but scared out of it's wits, managed to get it into a box, fed and watered it, and then let it go out in the garden. That said, the cats probably just hunted it down again !
With the traps, yes, you can buy "humane" traps... some supermarkets have them, but otherwise Placemakers, Mitre 10, any of those sorts of stores.
I'd offer to come over and trap it for you but... *looks around the room and mumbles something about boxes to unpack*

i used to get mice when i was living in the wop wops which didnt bother me 2 much - it was the giant rat that ran out from my fridge and out the cat door that did my head in - YUCK. Thankfully my dog Milo got it otherwise I would have been like you Emma and having nightmares about it.

we used to have one that lived in our heat pump (was one on the wall at ground level) we tried to catch it but it always escape. Once it went running from behind the tv to his house but ran straight into our huge newfoundland, poor max had a heart attack trying to figure out what was running over him, looked funny seeing him do a little dance but was so gross at the same time.

The mouse is gone. Pak n Save didn't have any humane traps, so I had to get an evil killer one. Willie sat up until 1am watching the trap coz he wanted to see the mouse get caught. Silly male. And then of course came to bed and bragged about it.
I do feel much better about it being gone...

Yay for you Emma, altho sick Willie!! I am a wuss too. I remember once that Daniel had gone away for a long weekend, and of course while he was gone the mouse got caught in the trap - well I left it for a few days but eventually swept it up with the fire brush and shovel thing and chucked it out on the lawn for him to deal with when he got home!
And Liz, your story creeps me out! Poor Jake

We've got a mouse in our house too... and I don't mean our pet rat, Charlie! We were away for a few days, and when we got home there was a random dead mouse on the kitchen floor. We weren't sure how it got there, as we don't have a cat, hadn't left any windows open, and the cat door (previous tenent) is locked.
Nat and I have suspected there might be more... he's heard them moving around at night in the laundry (off the kitchen)... I thought I caught a glimpse of the tail of one the other day... this morning I opened the laundry door to throw some washing at the dirty washing basket, and saw a grey mouse scoot across some towels and down to the floor by the tub! Nat's going to get some poison.

Yep, Willie is a little sick. Needless to say there was no loving going on when he came to bed and bragged about it!
Aimee - you are so much braver than me, firebrush or no firebrush I would not be going near it! When Willie and I were separated I had a dead bird on the back lawn for 4 days until Willie came to visit Maya and moved it coz I wouldn't even go out the back door!
