Topic: Toddlers Walking Posted: 09 February 2009 at 11:55am |
Hey,
Kylahs not walking fulltime yet, she can walking holding her pram, well run actually, and if she holds your finger she walks really good, but not alone, she does a few steps but thats it.
Anyways, when shes walking with her pram or holding your finder she walks on the inside of her feet, is this bad?
Im going to buy her Bobux i-walk shoes, are these good? I want her walking in good shoes.
Is it a problem, i thought well shes still learning so maybe its just her toddling..

I would hold off shoes until she is "walking".
Issy found shoes quite hard going at first as they tend to use their toes for balance (and wobble on their feet sometimes).
Issy started walking at 10.5 months and we left it a good 4 weeks until we put her in shoes, even now we only put her in shoes when we have to (eg if the grounds too hot lol)

I've heard i-walks are great shoes.
Sorry can't help too much with walking on the inside of her feet - could just be her getting used to walking, I dunno. Harry got more confidence from walking pushing his pushchair, holding onto our hand etc, and then gradually by himself just started walking a few steps between furniture. Probably if you wait til Kylah is walking really confidently, keep an eye on her feet then, and if you're concerned you could mention it to the doc next time you're there.
We hardly ever put Harry in shoes either, just for if the concrete is hot outside or if we're going out (just cos of safety really).
There's a thread in the general section about shoes for new walkers that might be helpful

I agree about holding off on the shoes. learning to walk in bare feet is so much easier and better for them. We didn't put Ella into hard soled shoes until she had been walking/running for around 3 months.

we used the standard bobux shoes when Tom was first walking. They are close to having nothing on but do protect from heat, rough ground etc. Tom had been walking a while before I went ti anything stiffer

At this stage Fay was walking on the outside of her feet, but she walks properly now. Plunket check it out her gait at the next check up, so if it's still a problem they will pick it up there

It's normal for preschoolers to walk on the insides of their feet, it's usually because they spread their legs to balance themselves. (So my podiatrist told me.) While bare feet is best, sometimes it's nice to have some little shoes for going out but until she is walking independently, go for the material soled shoes not the rubber soles.
