Topic: 6lbs at 34 weeks Posted: 27 May 2009 at 9:40pm |
that is quite big isnt it? if a baby was that big at 34 weeks what could you expect them to be full term? say 39-40 weeks

Depends on what had happened with the pregnancy. If the mother had GD then you would expect a big baby.

well henry was just over 8pound at 36 weeks and midwife said he would have been close to 11pound had he made it to 40wks. and i didnt have any medical problems that could have made him big. we weighed him on his due date and he was 10pound 3. But aparently they gain weight faster inside

Brennan was oversize the whole way through, i had a c-sect at 36.5wks and he was 8lb 8oz. they did a scan before i went in and they est him at 9-10lb, so they arent so accurate. But yea probably be a good size baby.

Yea you would expect it to be rather large, I had a scan 2 days before Alex was Due and told he was about 7lb 6oz, when he was born 12 days later (10 days overdue) he was 8lb 13oz..........

I had the opposite happen with Samantha. At 34 weeks they were saying 6 pds, at 37 weeks they were saying 8pd +. She was born 10 days before her due date and was only 6pd 12oz, so was tiny. I have no idea where they got their 'accurate' measurements from, but they were completely off!

when Kobe was born at 34 weeks he was 7lb 4oz, they said he would have been a 9lber if he had of gone to term but then I had GD. My friend has just had a scan at 34 weeks and they have said he is 6lb something already so chances are will be a big baby, her last was born at term and was 9lb something

my older sister was born 6lbs (or maybe more) at 34 weeks so I wonder what she would have been if she had been born full term.

I don't trust the scan estimates at all. I was told Jody was 8lb at 40wks. She was born 9lb 4oz 10 days later. Naughty lying scan! (or super fast growing baby...)

Mercedes was estimated 6lb at 33 weeks, she was born at 36 weeks 7lb1oz, and Sienna was estimated at around 5lb8oz and was born 6lb8oz.
Maya was estimated at 7lb9oz at 36 weeks and was born 9lb1oz at 38 weeks.

with Rhyley at 35weeks they said he was 7lbs and was born at 39 weeks 9lb 4oz.
My friend had one at 37 weeks said he was 6 1/2 lbs and born at 39 weeks at 7lb 1oz.
So I guess it all depends on the accuratcy of the scan estimate - and how baby grows naturally anyhow - i have big babies so knew baby was going to big anyhow.

At 33weeks Aoife was estimated to be 1.8kgs. When she was born at35 weeks we all expected her to be around 2kgs but came out at 1.6kgs.
Proportionally her head was big, so I guess that threw the estimates off.

I also got told that my baby was going to be huge from the late scans, but when she was born at 38 weeks she was 7lb 5oz, which is good for being slightly early, but not huge.

Liam was born at 39 weeks weighing 5lb 1oz so this time I am having 2 growth scans to make sure bubs is growing ok. But I have a feeling this one isn't going to be a skinned rabbit like Liam was as I am currently measuring 2 weeks ahead according to fundal height .
But even I would have to have a wee chuckle to myself if I end up with a 10lb'er (after the pain disappeared of course).
But I will have to keep in mind that the estimates given at these scans may be inaccurate...

I've been measuring 5 weeks ahead so just had a growth scan - measuring 7lbs at 35wks, so I suspect that means a 9lb+ baby if they let me go to term (I doubt they will cos I'm too small for a 9lb bub) ... so this thread is pretty interesting .... guess I will know in a few weeks ....

don't rely too much on the scans - I was having growth scans due to GD at 32 weeks she was measuring just under 6 pounds and at her 36 week scan 8 pounds. She was born at 38 weeks 2 days and was 7 pounds 12 ounces!
