Topic: Anyone been on the pill? Posted: 24 June 2009 at 3:54pm |
If so, did you get really emotional/stressed on it?
I have been taking it for 2 weeks today, and I am just a mess. I had a bit of a meltdown today and I am trying to work out if its the pill, or just the fact that I am a caregiver at home now with two extra kids and a clingy baby and teething toddler. My chest is feeling really tight and painful, wonder if I'm suffering from a bit of anxiety?
If I stop the pill now, how long until i start to see any difference?

What pill are you on? Some certainly have the type of side effects you are talking about.

Yeah i took Estelle for a few years and was fine on it but didnt really clear up my skin. Different pills affect everyone differently tho. I tried the Yasmin pill but seems to go a bit nuts on it, not sure if it was the pill or cos it as only a few months after m/c and i was still upset from that.
I spose you can do two things, either wait it out to see if it gets better, i think i use to hear that it takes atleast a month for your system to sort through the hormonal changes or you can change to a different one now... what ever makes you feel better really!

I was on the first pill (combination - Leveln?) I tried for about 3 months before we sat back and thought about why I had become a bit unhinged (low mood, anxiety, a bit cranky, sleep issues etc). I also didn't feel that well physically either, blood pressure increased etc. My doctor stopped it immediately and suggested I wait 3 months before start the minipill . I have been on a couple of these (noriday and another I can't remember) and have had no problems. It took a week or so (from what I can remember) till I noticed a difference. Was so worth changing as I was miserable, DH was miserable and it was affecting my work.

Yes, all the pills affect me in one way or another. I changed about 4-5 times I think before settling on Noriday, the mini pill. Even that made me a bit blue, I didn't realise how low I was until I went off it.
I felt a bit sick for a couple of days, but then I was oh so happy
Definatly talk to your gp about changing pills, it's usually just a case of finding the one that suits you.

I've never had any trouble myself thankfully I've been on the same pill for the last 11 years with no trouble. In saying that I have a very good friend who slid into depression and it was put down to the pill she was on. If you are having doubts I would come off it and see what happend. You've got a lot of other stuff going on as well with having children to look after so it could be a combination of it all.
Hope you feel better soon!

Are the Dianne/Estelle/Yasmin ones mini-pills or combined?
I have been on Monofeme 28 for *mumbles* 12 years, except the two periods of TTC/pg. It is a combined pill and it is subsidised as it is the generic one not the branded version. 6 months supply cost $3 . I haven't had any issues with it.
Oh and what is with some of the names of these pills !

I've been on Microginen 20 for 7yrs well until I stopped taking it cos I forget to get another script and fell pregnant yip 2weeks off the pill and pregnant lol.
Mum was apparently on the same one when she was younger but at the higher dosage and found that this works fine for me, it even had the added bonus of lightening af for me before starting taking it I had full on 7days of af with some days being so heavy it wasn't funny then by the time I conceived it was down to about 3days and light as anything which is fine by me the more I can forget about it the better lol.
I was on a lower dosage because I have headaches so that can affect it. I will be talking to GP once this one is born about alternatives to the pill.
Talk to your gp and try and figure out what is best for you.

Gosh, I'm so glad I'm not alone.
I've just spent the afternoon complaining to the Jan/Feb 08 Mummies about how crap I feel.
I'm on Microgynon and it's turning me into a rabid cow.
I've tried many others, this was the last port of call before my GP will talk about other options.
I feel your pain, ladies!

I think I will still be using condoms.
Does "taking it at the same time every day" mean the exact time? I sometimes take it between 9pm-10.30pm, I still use condoms in fear of it not being safe enough
The ONLY good thing is that I havent put on any weight (i think ive lost about 2kgs over the past few weeks!) when does weight gain start usually?
I seem to be better emotionally, perhaps its getting better?

As far as time of day, the minipill is the one you have to be most careful of, and they say there is a window of up to 4hrs for that. So you're fine there.
I was on Estelle for 6mos. It's a very strong pill and it took me about 2 weeks I think to get used to it. At first my sense of smell was greatly intensified but that settled down. After a while of being on Estelle (month or two), I found that my hormones/emotions were very settled - so settled that it was a bit odd for me and I was happy when I got off it.

well ive been on norimin for the past 6 years....was fine at first, made my af way heavier (and nice to know exactly when its coming as i was SO irregular) but for quite a while now i have been "the mad bitch from hell" lol - i cry, i yell, i get frustrated over every little thing etc...and poor DF is getting the lot of it, (not to mention my lack of wanting sex lol) not sure if its just me or not but im starting to think it may be the pills doing. Does anyone know if it can start to affect you like that after so long of being on it? or is it just me being grumpy? thinking its maybe time to come off it..
