I dont think it matters if you dont have eye probs. my mum was reading it out to me (she wanted the "right" answers...and I wasnt giving them to her) I have been too lazy to read it myself but it sounded like it was trying to find out what the general public know.....I guess so we dont assume you know something (or dont know).
Done though one of their questions is incorrectly set up.
maybe that's the eye test part of the survey?
Lol then I failed it I couldn't figure out for ages why it wouldn't let me submit the page and then I realised that one of the 'other please specify' questions only works if you tick another answer as well.
An optometrist is trained to examine the eye and prescribe glasses/ contact lenses etc. They examine both the visual system and the health of the eye but in general cant treat any eye disease (although this is changing and some can).
An ophthalmologist is a medical specialist. An eye surgeon. They have done a medical degree and then specialised in eye surgery. HEAPS of study and very specialised with a very hard pass rate. These guys are geniuses and worth every penny....I would not want their responsibility.
Optometrists hold a degree in optometry (5 long hard bloody years)....but Ophthals are studying for 10-15years!
Opticians (in NZ) generally refer to dispensing opticians. They can take your prescription and make glasses but cant prescribe and dont test eyes.
All 3 professions have to undergo continuing education to upskill each year and must hold an annual practicing certificate.
I should add that in most cases your optometrist would be your first port of call for eye related things (above your GP...they know diddly squat). If your optom has any concerns they will refer you to an ophthalmologist.
