took bubba to farmers yesterday where she promptly fell in LOVE with a crawling bubba doll and very unusually for her asked me to buy it...she never usually does that (i push toys onto her LOL)

anyways - it was a fisher price and OMG $80 for a doll I would consider on small side! Let alone the strawberry shortcake stuff which she also adores but $29.95 for a figurine that is about 10 cms tall WOW!

seriously I buy in the sales and have stocks put away a year ahead for most things and my kid lacks for nothing but the recent prices are simply shocking! no wonder $2 shops exist and that parents are broke by xmas....

I haven't even thought about Xmas yet *shudder* - we've got two birthdays to get thru before then, and are still recovering from the financial hemorrhage that was our Gold Coast trip...

And yep, agree re: prices on things - last Xmas Ponyville was big with the oldest child and it is ridiculous how much it costs - and of course she wanted the rollercoaster which was in the $79.95 bracket not the smaller packs in the $49.95 bracket

I actually noticed this year in the big toy sales (farmers, Kmart, warehouse and the likes) that the toys normal retail prices have risen HEAPS and the fisher price/playskool toys that I thankfully got lucas in previous years in the sales were at least an extra $20-$30 this year, despite supposedly being heavily reduced for the sales. Can anyone say Recession?

Really at the end of the day toys aren't a necessity, Lucas was spoilt rotten by my family in the first 2 years and he barely played with any of the toys he was given, he got more joys out of things you just find around the house (I'm sure lots of people would agree with me) and nowadays he prefers to 'help mummy' rather than touch the toys, only thing that i can guarantee he will sit down and actually play with is his hot wheels cars/wooden car garage and his wooden puzzle box where you dress the little boy with diff tops, pants and faces. Nothing else gets more than 2 mins worth of attention.

ok so i wont tell u i got the my little pony ponyville roller skate tower thingey for $17 at kmart PRE sale sale! LOL...

i know what u mean about toys tho as she is a daycare kid so would rather paint etc and ride a bike than sit with a toy...but dolls she is REALLY into at moment...and thought heck a NICE doll would be good - but that price...gawd! and it is the really small figurines - think fairies, barbies, princesses, dora etc - and OMG ROARY toys - cute, she loved the talking car but I am NOT paying $40-$50 for a small toy car!!!!

yep i keep a good eye on sales - but noticed some of prices have gone up mega - and sales in july and post were not nearly as good this year...

i even buy dvds on sale - if it is more than $15 I dont buy it....she has 1000's and one day might even watch some of them....its taken us four days to watch mary poppins and 2 days to watch one hi 5 episode.,....LOL!

We bought Gina's first Barbie today - a bargain at around $50 + $30 for extra clothes. Got shoes and slippers for both girls = $80. And stopped at PP too but I'm ingnoring that

Damn all the cute stuff for kids - must leave credit card at home when we go out next time

i think its all about budgeting and buying during sales... i dont know how any one can be broke at xmas from buying presents when you have a whole year to get organised!

Thats true too Bizzy, I have never bought a toy at full price...never ever! I take note of certain toys/clothes...whatever it may be that takes my eye and i wait until Farmers/Warehouse etc etc have their annual sales, cardholders nights etc. Or from time to time some of them have 30% off selected brands.

Kids clothes especially, i was browsing at the new season bubba's clothes everywhere, T & T is still reasonably cheap but my lord have you seen the mark ups on Farmers gear? Teeny weeny bodysuits which I used to put lucas in as a bub (usually $6.99-9.99 max),now $17.99 for ONE! And we had huge problems with their domes falling off last year, the quality really went downhill nearer to the end of us using his size 2's from there. I never buy clothe full price either.

We just picked up heaps of cheap long sleeved tees from T & T last week, $3-$6 max per piece (sizes 4-5 too), ended up with 8 items for under $30. I don't think their quality is too bad either, perfectly fine for around home or daycare kids. Highly recommend popping into their Winter Clearance sale!

I usually start buying in September but I've already got a couple of gifts for Michaela.  The only trouble is DH keeps giving them to her  We got a box set of 6 Barbie DVDs for $49.95 and there's only one left - I should hide the gifts from DH too.

Andrew is sorted though, he'll be given some of the toys Michaela got for her first Christmas and has long since outgrown.  Real cheapskate here.
