    Posted: 05 September 2009 at 6:25pm
Ok, so I'm a few days past when AF was due (2-3), and I did a pregnancy test last night (First response dip stick jobby). I dutifully followed the instructions, possibly not as well as I should've, and went back to have a look within 5 minutes. After umming and arghing with DH for about 30 secs over the faint line that got a bit darker as we watched, we binned it and decided to do another one in a couple of days. I went back about 20 minutes later and fished it out of the bin, only to see that the second line had become quite dark. But then I figured that I couldn't actually count it because it was outside of the allotted time, and I was worried about evaporation lines. Then I read today (possibly should've done this last night) that evap lines are very faint lines, and well now I'm confused. I'm guessing that the best idea would just be to test again, probably in the morning. Any suggestions.

i reckon it sounds like a BFP cos it says wait 10 mins to turn up and i think if you had of waited that long it would of been dark enough to be a positive. i think evap lines are more confusing when its a really really early test and looks like one thing in the light but not quite a positive. personally i think it sounds like a BFP but retest in the morning just to see. how many dpo were you wehn you tested?

Evap lines are normally colourless or greyish so I would say if you had a faint coloured line in the time (sorry can't remember what colour first response is) then you are up the duff. A line is a line no matter how faint.

But also you can get false positives when read outside of the time limit.

But as I said before if you had a line, no matter how faint, within the 5 mins you are pregnant.

Congratulations and feel free to take a few more tests, I know I did, you never ever quite believe that first one.

The line was faintly pink. DH is sceptic, so will probably have to take another test to convince him, but not soon cos what's the point doing it so soon (according to DH)? Gotta love him. I would've been about 15-16DPO I think. Can't remember exactly. Thanks for help . FX that next time I actually follow instructions.

Yeah my Dh always thought I should just wait until I got fat and then I would know I on the other hand thought a handful of tests was the best idea, and then an extra one at the docs just to make double triply quadruply sure.

I would say if it was pink in the time allowed you are definitely pg, the darkness of the line doesn't mean much as it's just to do with how much dye is used and can vary test to test.

I sooooooo agree!! Ive had HEAPS of coloured evaps after time with these tests.... but if you had a faint line at 5 mins then it's a bfp! They (like ALL hpts) are not to be read after the time limit tho - but seeing it's 10 mins and you had a line at 5 it's looking pretty good

I just did another one. Had a very faint line at 2 mins, got darker at 5, and was darker still at 10mins. Still kept getting darker after 10 mins, but think it's about as dark as it's gonna get now. Also discovered that the lighting in the toilet sucks for reading it cos of all the glare.

Thanks. I'm still having trouble believing it . Will probably be happier once I've seen the doctor. Hehe, I still think I'm seeing things. DH is a bit happier now that there are two sticks with two lines on each. This has made my weekend .

Congrats, how exciting!! All of my tests (and I did many!) came back with faint lines, it's frustrating isn't it!! Glad it turned out to be a BFP!
