Topic: What you were never told about Pregnancy! Posted: 16 June 2006 at 1:47pm |
I thought it would be fun to start a post of “things we were never warned about!”. Feel free to add anything serious, humorous or down right outrageous!
I’ll get the ball rolling.
It is perfectly within the realms of possibility that you will get up to go to the bathroom at 1.00am, come back to bed and HAVE to get up again at 1.10pm!!!

It is normal to go from lying awake at night thinking you will never notice your baby's movements, to wishing your baby would stop wriggling so you could get some sleep!

That even if you thought you were the clumsiest person in the world, having all that extra weight at the front will make you even clumsier.

It is completely normal for your ability to concentrate to shrink as your bump grows. I have almost totally lost the capacity to finish my sentences!

Just how much ppl want to touch you like you are a pregnancy icon or something, all my girlfriends have rubbed my stomach in hopes of getting pregnant.
That its completely normal to walk into a room, say the start of a sentence then walk out again, thinking you have actually finished it.

that complete strangers will fell compelled to touch your stomach and give you advice about vaginal births and/or tell you a story about a friend of a friend who had a 15pound child who cried constantly for three years and had colic...and reflux and everything else under the sun...

That you might not notice your centre of gravity changing, but you sure do every time you lean to get something off a supermarket shelf and smack your forehead on the shelf above it!

From Nat:
That a woman's cravings can be easily ignored, and if they want something in the middle of the night then they can get it themselves!
(and he thinks I'm wonderful for letting him get away with that!)

*lol* Becca.....i think B disagrees with that one...he said:
"ignore a preggie woman's cravings at your peril!!!".
Which brings me to my next one:
First breakfast at 4.00am is perfectly acceptable when trying to prevent morning sickness!!! (no kidding - I really did have a brekkie at 4.00-5.00am!)

that all of a sudden people find it acceptable to talk about your boobs or labour stories even in front of your dad or male boss, people you really dont want having a mental picture of you in certain situations!
Also its obvious you have had sex and people take joy in your discomfort about this (as one partner did at my farewell morning tea yesterday)
For a little while after giving birth you will love the body you have because its yours, its not sore everytime you move or needing to pee every second etc and of course you can see your toes again so you must be looking super skinny!

Complete and utter strangers telling you all about their vaJayJays just cos you are obviously knocked up. Oh, and I agree totally with what Liz said.
Also, I totally wasn't prepared to be out of my clothes and into maternity clothes ALREADY. AAARRRGGGHHH!!!! (have to go to Egg tomorrow as my suit trousers are cutting me in half and my pp preggy pants from ;ast time as so not suitable for my suit, and are too small, as I lost 20kg last pregnancy...we olny have Egg here for maternity clothes in a hurry..)

That it takes halve an hour to get comfy in bed or to just move to a different position.
And re the people who feel the need to make comments about boobs, sex etc. I had all the interesting comments about doing it more than once in a night to get twins from people that really didnt need to talking to me in that way - gross!!!
In the end I would say lucky I didnt conceive the night we did it 5 tmies huh!!!

its perfectly normal to have no control of "emissions" when pregnant. I went shopping last night that was interesting trying to waddle really fast away from that area i had just been in when i had an "emission accident" lol
Its also perfectly normal to drop EVERYTHING, i dont think i know of any other time that i just couldnt grasp anything aswell as attempting to put things down on the counter alot earlier than supposed to so it lands on the floor

just following on from what robyn said about liking your body cos it's yours again... lol, yes that happens, for about 2 seconds, or maybe longer until you then realise that nope, it's still not yours, cosnow your hubby wants a piece of you again, and baby still feeds and toddler just gropes and lcimbs and whinges while pulling at your clothes, climbing on your lap... then you start to wonder if you'll ever actually get it back... and just what state it will be in when you do.... like something you lend to another person and they don't give it back for ages.

That you get so uncontrolably angry about the stupid little things people do, then beat yourself up over getting so angry over it in the first place and making yourself even more upset
And that you can only get up from one position when lying in bed (usually not facing the edge of the bed so you can swing your legs out and sown) and only a 300 point turn manouver can get you out of the bed - This is normally at 3am when you wake up and need to pee NOW lol

No one ever told me that I wouldn't be able to stand to wear most of my underwear!!!
I advise going out and buying some cheap cotton knickers as a) anything with elastane in it pissed me right off and b) you'll end up stretching them to bits anyway!
