I thought it couldn't hurt to come here before going to the doc about contraception.

Has anyone here used a diaphragm? DH and I have decided to take a break from TTC ... 12 months on we think perhaps me being over-stressed and exhausted from work (I have now quit my job and found another with much less stress, shorter hours, closer to home and the ability to take leave during the year, and sick days!!) was part of the problem, so we've decided to take a break for maybe a year, go on holiday (to America early next year!!) and then pick up again when I've had the chance to live and enjoy life a bit

Anyway - contraception ....

I'm not sure about this. I can't take combination pills (focal migraines), single hormone pills (crippling pain and dreadful cycles) - and, of course, my cycles are better by far without the pill. The IUD scares 7 shades of hell out of me, as does the depo (aside from the fact that it takes so long to get out of your system), I hate condoms, and the rythym method is a bit risky, which I think just leaves me with a diaphragm.

But, I don't know the first thing about them!!

I think that diaphragm's are really popular in the States, but sorry, haven't tried one myself. I think I would get fed up having to plan to put it in in advance and then remember to leave it there however many hours afterwards and then fish it out. Oh, and I think you use spermacide with them to make them more reliable?
I've done depo and would never ever go there ever again.
I'm already booked in for an IUD when this bubs has been out in the world for six weeks and will go for the Merina. I've had other IUD's which were great (and had two conceptions since getting the IUD out - Andrew and this one due in Sept). I'm not sure about Merina, but I know with other non-hormone implanted ones that you can go back to TTC as soon as it is out.

arh! i have issues with contraception too.... but after a bad experience on the pill that will never be an option again! blah! hubby is getting the "chop" after this baby is born, pretty much the only way for us though, as i dont like the thought of any other things being in me or me using them.... im weird like that. and hubby HATES condoms.... if he wants sex he knows what to do once bubs is here

I'm on depo. Everyone warned me it would be bad, but honestly I've been absolutely fine. i haven't put on any weight, or had any nasty side effects. However, I've always been fine on the pill too ( aprt from taking that expired lot and getting pregnant, but let's not go there)
