This is a bit scary - imagine not being able to get out and listening to your child 'on the outside'?! I've just put some door stoppers on DD's door so she doesn't lock herself in her bedroom - but never thought about them locking me in!

I just read that.

I wonder HOW she was locked in, though. None of my wardrobes/bedroom doors have the ability to lock.

Scary though

Mama pickle, if they have ordinary door catches instead of roller-catches or similar, and a handle on the outside and not the inside, then the doors can only be opened by turning the handle on the outside.

Lots of the older houses I've lived in had closets like that. I've been known to lock my siblings in on occasion and vice versa . Never for long though, cos as soon as the victim started screaming for mum the culprit would open the door so they didn't get in trouble

I can imagine that would be very very scary though!

*goes off to check how many of the catches in this house are still like that*

On a similar note Caleb locked us outside last week. I usually lock the back door if we are outside on the deck and with our new ranchslider he can lock it so we were all outside and he shut the ranchslider and locked it. Needless to say once we convinced him to unlock it we unlocked the back door just in case he locked us out and wandered off somewhere.

crap if that was me i would have kicked through the door or wall thats why we have insurance. I could not have been able to wait 7 hours. That lady should have watched more macgyver back in the day Wonder if she will keep some tools in there for next time?

Josh can lock the front door and has almost locked me out once but i would have smashed a window to get in if i didnt have a phone. The house would be trashed if josh was let loose hahaha.

Am I the only one who wonders why this story was front page news?

Yeah I would have busted down the door too. Daniels locked me out of the house before and I climbed through the toilet window to get back in - I put a key outside immediately just in case he did it again

Lol, lemongirl, I did wonder that too. Seems a bit strange to turn around and ring the newspaper doesn't it?

There is another version on NZHerald site that says she did try breaking down the door and couldn't. Maybe she was just a little wee lady?

But it also said she was due to pick her other child up from daycare at 3 and was locked in until her hubby got home at 4.30. I would hope that if I was over an hour late to get my child from daycare and not answering my phone, people would start looking for me!!
