Topic: Freaking out a bit – 8 weeks to go! Posted: 16 December 2009 at 3:46pm |
I have about 8 weeks left to go with my pregnancy and in the last couple of days I have gone from being a calm and relaxed preggy lady to feeling quite freaked out about having a baby. Which is a bit ridiculous really, I mean it’s not like my big baby belly has just appeared out of nowhere!
Anyone else having last minute jitters? If so, what are your worries? I think I am worried about those first few days after giving birth, how surreal and overwhelming it may feel to suddenly have this little being to care for. I guess I am just hoping I will be a good mum.
Any other new mums feeling the pressure?x

Yep totally! And I've got less time to go than you do
Even though this baby was planned, it did happen extremely quickly, and I find myself wondering sometimes, "what on earth will I do with a baby?"
I think its largely that its just such an unknown thing, you know? I find it really hard to imagine what it will be like, so it's quite hard to imagine how I'll cope with it.
I'm pretty confident I'll feel ok once it's here - I'll keep you posted... this time next week perhaps

Hi T Rex,
Thanks for your message – yes, the fear of the unknown is a biggie and I am sure parenthood is one steep learning curve! Good luck in the next couple of weeks

Yeah, I sometimes think holy moly, how much life is gonna change now we have baby on the way. It is hard to imagine how much we are gonna have to adjust...being an older mum, I am kinda used to having freedom so it sure is gonna be interesting!

I have a couple weeks left to go, I've had a real hard time accepting the pregnancy, as it's something that was never on my agenda and been a little older it hasn't been easy making adjustments. A few weeks ago I was having anxiety attacks, but as things get closer a strange scence of calm has come over me for the first time in the entire pregnancy. I still have my down days where I end up in tears, but I think it's more to do with greaving about the life that I'm forced to leave behind and the sacrifices I'm having to make, rather than the pressures of motherhood. I know I'm responsible enough to look after a child, it's just that I don't really want to

Yep it's a pretty big mind flip becoming a mum and i must say it hit me really hard in those first few days. About day 3 the huge responsibility of it all hit me like a freight train when he woke in the night and i realised that i would always have to get up for him, every time this happened for the rest of his life! Then i just resigned myself and got on with it but i think the sooner you come to terms with that whole thing the better. It makes you look back on your old life in a really different way.
Arrgghh, don't mean to scare you girls but yes it's freaky and the bad news is that it takes most men ages to come to the same realisation.
Can i just say to finish that i never knew or could have had any idea how much i would love him though - not all at first but growing and growing all the time until you really just don't know how you lived without him in your life. So you find depths of patience that you never thought you had because of that love.
It's the best thing in the world and i think being worried about it is just proof that you'll be awesome because you care. It's such a blast!

Don't worry, I feel exactly the same! I have been super calm and confident throughout my pregnancy but ever since I hit the 30wk mark I've been freaking out about how I'm guna handle the pressure of having to be responsible for someone other than myself. I haven't had much to do with babies... infact I've only ever held 2 in my entire life and I freaking out about everything from holding her to bathing her to dressing her..... I have no idea what I'm doing! But I'm sure it will all come naturally when she arrives

I have those freak out moments too and I've had a baby before. But that was 6 years ago. I think I got even more freaked out when my m.w informed me I can't go into hospital until contractions are 3 mins apart and that at that point I may be too far along in labour for an epidural. I also wonder how will I cope with my relationship, my 6 yr old and a new baby. I've have these freak outs a few times during this pregnancy. Truth is, whether you've been there and done it before or not, it is still scary. As not all pregnancy's are the same, neither are the labours or birth and all baby's are different. Like I'm sure things may come more naturally because I've done it before, with regards to caring for the baby. But I do wonder how I will cope when my DD is stressing me out and I have a baby to look after too. I'm hoping being tired and doing the Mum thing with 2 kids doesn't have a bad effect on my relationship, as with my DD I was a single Mum, so I never had to try make a relationship work around a baby. And even though I am already a Mum, I do worry about whether I'll be a good Mum to this baby and continue to be a good Mum to my DD. I am excited to meet my new baby, but yeah, scared at having a new baby at the same time. I think I am most freaked about labour and birth more then anything.

I have these moments too! Mainly coz I'm only 19 and haven't had much experience with babies at all so I'm quite worried about not knowing what to do, will I bond, etc. I know I'll have great support once she is born but I still worry!! Going to be a HUGE responsibility and lifestyle change.
I can't wait for her to come, to meet her and see what she looks like etc, but I'm rather scared at the same time!

Crapping my pants here. 9 weeks to go and I'm terrified of actually giving birth. Didn't have too much fun with the last one :( Also no partner around to support me which I'm feeling crap about. I just want to get the birth over and done with and bring the wee man home.
