Topic: TMI warning: question about boobs and sex Posted: 07 January 2010 at 10:01pm |
Okay, so I'm one of those lucky (or unlucky) girls who's libido has skyrocketed since falling PG and err, boobs and nipples play a big part in our bedroom if you know what I mean.
So anyhoo, I was reading one of my many PG books the other day and I came across a couple of pages which in a nut shell, suggested that your breasts not be over stimulated. They were referring more to practising with a breast pump but um, I'm guessing there can be a similar amount of suction when... you know.
The book said it can cause contractions and something about your body expressing colostrum which sounded like a bad thing to do pre baby?
To add to my concerns, I've had itchy nipples throughout my PG and I wear breast pads as they do leak a teeny tiny amount of yellow stuff when I scratch them. I thought it was just my body's natural oil from damaged skin as I used to get itchy nipples in my teens and the same thing happened. But then this morning, I thought I'd test it out and pressed down on one of my nipples. When I did so, the smallest drop of moisture appeared on the tip which surprised me.
So basically what I really want to know is: are nipples a no go zone while you're PG?

No I wouldn't say nipples are a no go zone during pregnancy. Though at some points it can annoy you having them played with. Your nipples might be itchy because they are dry. You could always buy some Lanisoh and put that on them to sooth them. The leaking might just be colostrum, which is totally normal. Squeezing them to see if anything comes out will cause no harm and won't start contractions. I mean I squeeze mine every now and then to see if the colostrum is still there and I've not gone into labour at all, so I'm not worried. All I can say is you can have them played with by your partner as much as you like and just don't play with any breast pumps and you'll be fine.

I wouldnt worry in the slightest. It sounds totally normal. Also i read somewhere that the amount of nipple stimulation needed to bring on labour was such that it would feel like a bloody chore!!! So you'll be good. Remember...its all natural so our bodies must be designed for it.

Yeah I heard you would pretty much have to touch/squeeze/rub them 24/7 for a few days!

LOL Yup, you need constant stimulation for a LONG time for it to work.
For instance, there are plenty of women who bf right through pg.....

Anyone else agree with me that carrying a boy means skyrocketing libido & carrying a girl means ZERO libido? When I was preg with DS I was super-keen but this time round (carrying a girl) I could not be less interested....

I wouldn't worry about it, like everyone said you would have to be playing with the nipples 24/7 to do anything!

From someone who had nipple stimulation while giving birth you'd slap him before you got excited about it and there's probably no way he'd be bothered to give it that much effort. It's not a loving little tickle And squeeze so much as a clamp pull and twist feeling.

Thanks girls, yeah, I'm starting to think this book is a bit rubbish. Along with the warning on over-stimulating your breasts, one of the suggestions with a newborn is to use disposable plates so you don't have to do the dishes. Hmm, I think I value my environment a tad more than that and what, are DH's arms and legs painted on?

I found that not to be true with me. I had more of a libido with my first pregnancy, and I was pregnant with a GIRL baby. This time I am also pregnant with a GIRL baby and my libido is very lacking.

Libido?? What libido! Haha, I'm 35wks preg with a girl and I can count on ONE hand the amount of times we've... you know..... since getting our BFP. Poor DF........ although there have been a few times I've tried to instigate a bit of fun time but he is afraid we will hurt the baby So we've just given up all together. Doesn't worry me in the slightest! And DF seems happy with it so thats the main thing.

Yea I have zero libido, but kept doing it anyway, only because I think it triggered my labour with my first and Im hoping it will be the same this time! Haha disposable plates...thats a bit ridiculous. You could also wear disposable clothes I suppose, to save on washing, and while youre at it you could sleep in disposable bedlinen . All wonderful ideas.

I did have a particularly raunchy dream about Bono from U2 the other night-mmmmmmmmm....
Yeah, maybe it's just being pregnant with baby2 that leads to no libido. I'm so exhausted from running around after DS & being pregnant that by the time it's just me & DH all I want to do is lie on the couch.
Enjoy the skyrocketing libido while you have it Treen!
