Just wanting to know how your've found them?
Have u had any problems with it?
Any info would be great as preggers with #2 and need a bigger car and we like the look of the subaru wagons but have heard they are quite expensive to run and get fixed?
Your opinions would be great

What sort of subaru wagon? Do you mean a legacy or impreza or outback? I have an impreza sportshatch, have had it for five years now and it has passed every single one of its WOFs! It is the most reliable car I have ever owned. I just spent a lot of money on it last week to put in a new water pump and cam belt ($950) but as that is the first problem I have had I'm not complaining!

Oh sorry that might help huh... legacys we have been looking at?
Oh thats good to know not sure if the impreza would be much different than a legacy but how do you find them on gas?

I just have the standard model, so no turbo, about a 1.6 I think, and it is brilliant on gas, really economical.
I also have friends who have legacies who have found them reliable. My parents had a 2L legacy a few years ago which was majorly thirsty on the gas but you will always get that with the bigger engines.

DH had a turbo legacy awhile back - had a few problems it and it was kind of heavy on gas - we brought it second hand. I just dont think it was treated well to start with
My parents have always had Subrau and not had many problems with them - they have all been pretty new tho.
I had a Impreza for 2 weeks - then i got stolen - very nice car but it looked like it was going to guzzle the gas.. just 2L not turbo

Had a grandwagon and it cost us a fortune!! We got rid of it after 12 months. I really do think it is the luck of the draw though as my father had a Subaru wagon years ago and found it very reliable and economical.

We have an inpreza too and for the 4 years we have had it have only ever done break pads and tires. On the other hand, i know a handful of poeple with with legacys or outbacks and they have all had problems, some being major!
Although I love my trusty subaru, I dont think i would invest in another.

Oh and in regards to space, we recently borrowed a family members outback to got up to the north island with and the boot space was almost double than in our imprezas- so in that aspect they are great!

We've got a '98 legacy 2.0l turbo sw, bought imported from japan at 75,000km two years ago, after selling our legacy turbo sedan.
It's great! Sooo comfy, spacious and in my opinion not really as thirsty as people make them out to be. On a full tank (around 60l) I'll do 550km and it hasn't let us down once, no probs with wof or anything else.
Now it's just time to get the cambelt done, so I'm guessing it will be expensive but can't get around that one anyway!
I would really recommend, just take care and don't buy a modified one or one that's been trashed.... A factory one is really mint!

We have a Subaru Legacy station wagon - non turbo - 2L. It is not too bad on gas - as automatic - and a really great car. We now have two children, one is 22 months and the other 8 weeks - and yet we still manage to fit everything in for trips away! Also wouldn't be without the permanent 4wd - such a different safety wise. Also it is one of the best cars to drive and comfort wise. Would definitely recommend. Have not had to do much more than replace tyres and service it since we got it 4 years ago.

We had a legacy until it was stolen a couple of weeks ago- something to keep in mind with subaru's as boy racers tend to like them. I agree with the others- try and get one that hasn't been converted. Ours was pretty economical although I have an impreza which is far more economical but it doesn't have much grunt

To be honest, i would stay as far away from a subaru wagon as you can.
We have had 3 of them. All three have had nothing but problems. Not to mention they are insanely expensive to fix.
One of ours was just the coil that went, turns out they have 4 coils and you have to take them all out to test which one is faulty. $120ea brand new. They quoted us $600 to fix it. I replaced all four myself for $240
Sorry abit off track.
If you are wanting something reliable and economical, I would go with a toyota wagon. They are cheap and easy to fix, economical as and they are reliable to boot.
Thats just my 2 cents worth :)

I've got a Legacy GT turbo. As long as you don't trash the engine...like DP does!...petrol is pretty good. Space wise it's awesome.

I had a 97 GTB wagon (turbo so expensive insurance) and only DP found it chewed the gas but i put it down to the way he drives. I LOVED it and we only really had airfow meter problems. We brought it stolen/recovered with minor damage from and insurance company and found it really cheap to fix as any parts we needed were easy to find cheap on trademe and DP is mechanic so never paid for any work to be done on it just minor panelbeating a mate in the trade fixed.
DP hates them tho and sold it on me and im still waiting on the toyota caldina he brought to replace it. He a toyota man 100% reckons you cant go wrong with a toyota..

Mines not a wagon, but I've got a 1989 subaru legacy, 2L, non turbo.
It's a tank!!! it just keeps going!! its brilliant and I love it so much. Its suprisingly good on gas, we haven't had to do anything but tyres, service, oil etc which you'd do on a normal car, and DH had to re-gas the air con unit (which when it's 20 years old I think is pretty damn good!)
So nothing you wouldn't do with another car anyways!

We have a 2003 Subaru Legacy & have found it great. It's a 2L (I think) & doesn't seem to guzzle gas excessively. We get it serviced every year & haven't had to fix anything on it other than a couple of new tyres.
So I guess it's luck of the draw but we love our Subaru

We have a 98 GTB Legacy Wagon and we it to pieces!! It costs about $70 to fill it from empty and we can get about 650kms to a full take (open road driving) and thats a twin turbo and car fully loaded.
The space is awesome. When we came home (its in storage while were in Aus) we used it and it fitted 3 large suitcases, a pram and other crap no problems.
As for engine reliability, year sure, they can have their issues (as can other cars) but if you service them regularly and look after them they will treat you kind too.
All in all we love our Subie Wagon
