Topic: Am I really going to do this to myself?!? Posted: 26 February 2010 at 7:28pm |
Torture myself I mean!
I had a couple of miscarriages before I had Jackson. On Wednesday morning I got a reasonably strong line on a Discover brand pregnancy test.
I rummaged around and found two more First Response tests. Did a test yesterday, and only got a very faint line, and it took ages to show (longer than the 2 min on the packet). Today I used the last test and had the same result - slow but faint (fainter than yesterday) BFP.
*Stress, stress, stress*
Don't really feel pregnant, except for burping lots (which I did with my blighted ovum miscarriages). I just don't want to go crazy with expecting a MC until I can start taking blood tests.

The tests might have different sensitivites, which is why the later ones showed as fainter. I quickly googled, and the discover ones say they can detect from 6 days pre-AF being due, but the first response say 5 days pre-AF due.....so maybe the discover ones are slightly more sensitive, and if you're just over that level the FR ones will be not as dark?
Don't know if that helps at all

Yeah, I know Discover is more sensitive. But I am a few days past AF being due now, so surely they shouldn't be getting fainter (ignoring the Discover, the last two First Responses have declined in appearance).
Grr, I told myself I didn't care, but I do!

It's so easy to over-analyse I remember doing the exact same thing.... my only other suggestion is that the FR tests differed in sensitivity? Sometimes they say they can detect 25 mcg HcG (for example), but some tests will be 15, some 20, some 25 etc.
When can you get bloods done to find out for sure what the numbers are doing? Or do you think that will worry you more?

I don't know as I only ever bought a few tests at a time but are the FR tests old and could that affect their sensitivity?

The colour of the line is not important...its the line that counts! if you have the hormone you get the line
Try and think positive....that way you can enjoy the whole pregnancy. Whats the old saying "smile, it may never happen" ...that was the philosophy I took followin my MC.

Yep I agree. And from what I understand its more about the die in the test itself and how it reacts with the urine sample as to how dark it appears.
I never had strong lines with any of the HPT's with Jackson and I did one a day for about 5 days
Congrats hun Enjoy

Thanks guys. Get what everyone is telling me but not really feeling confident. Line even fainter today - almost impossible to see. Not feeling any of the symptoms I had a few days earlier.
What will be will be - I will just keep hoping for the best!

I didnt get any symptoms with either my MC or this bub until I started to get fat at the beginning of the 2nd tri... No MS, burping, no nothings... Even now I am still cruising through it, and apart from the kicks I get, I still forget Im PG. Im the most unpregnant pregnant person I know!
The test line on the tests, they say not to compare them as an indicator of rising HCGs/how well a pregnancy is going as each test can have different amounts of dye in it (even from the same batch) and your pee could be less concentrated, or the tests could have different sensitivitys... They say they detect from levels of 25, but most are more sensitive than that but they have to have a minimum sensitivity which is where they get the 25 from..
Anyway, just take them with a grain of salt, like PP said its not the colour of the line its the fact there is a line
Congrats hun!
Gosh sorry for the big ramble!

Thanks Emmi. And thanks everyone.
Just don't want to go through another MC. Gonna try to stop thinking about it. And was very well behaved and didn't buy any more tests today!

My Discover tests with Samantha were really strong and came up quick. But when I went to the Docs a few days later to confirm, the line on the test (I forget the brand now) they use took ages to appear and was really faint. Like everyone else has said, it all depends on the varying sensitivities of different brands, and even tests of the same brand can give varying boldness as it can depend on the amount of dye in that particular test, and probably the dilution of your urine you used at the time. Because my test at the Drs was really faint, I had a series of blood tests to confirm the amount of hcg and that it was going up.
Fingers crossed for you hun and good luck for your Dr appointment on Tuesday. Definitely ask for some blood tests.

Also , they say that you can have a pack of three of the same, and get different levels of darkness for each of them . The point is, there is a line, which means there is still HCG in your system .
Good luck !

When I was testing for this pregnancy think I used first response and got really really faint lines for a couple of days, then I got a clearblue cos have used that before with last pregnancy, did that about 4 days later and got a really strong positive line. So you could just be very early stages of pregnancy and hence why line is very pale as thats what happened to me.
Good luck

My discover with this bub was faint to medium line and my BT from later that day was 11..... my point is the test is super sensitive and it depends how diluted your pee was when taking the tests... I seemed to get much darker tests in the afternoon than the morning.. dont know why though.
I had several faints until AF was due with internet cheapies and didnt get a decent until AF was 4 days late...
GL hun, I have everthing crossed for you

Well, my instincts were correct. I am out.
Now just need to wait for the inevitable to happen.
So gutted.
