I know the carseat thing has been done a million times. So, sorry about that. But I do have a very specific question.

Those of you who have tall babies and have bought a Brio Zento - how have you found it? Do they grow out of them too quickly?

The reason I ask is that I've heard that they are not as good for tall babies. We really want to get one though as they seem the safest option and the logical choice after having the Graco Logico as a capsule. Jude is above the 85th percentile in terms of height and weight, so don't think he will be in the Graco for the 12 months they say it can accommodate babies until, we are worried that we will spend a lot of money on the Brio as well and he will grow out of it really fast.

We don't have one Stacey, I have only seen one. From what I have heard, many babies grow out of them in different ways, ie through height and also because they are quite narrow in width around the arm region (of that makes sense!) so the seat becomes a bit too snug.

After getting some expert advice we decided to order a seat from Sweden. This one Britax Multitech It RF from 9 to 25kg and has the added benefit of ensuring RFing for atleast 4-5years as the head rest grows with the child. It works out to be roughly $750 NZD with shipping, although it is being sent to Italy not here.. (I'm itching to get my hands on it! ) It's a little more expensive sending here.. ie 75 euro for shipping to NZ

Our good friends have the Britax two-way, which for them worked out to be about $650 including shipping to NZ. That is a great seat and for roughly the same price as the Brio I would definetly go for the two-way instead. It also RF to 25kg and they have it installed in a small car very comfortably.

These seats are perfectly legal to import and use in NZ too as NZ recognises EU safety standards.

If you email Hakan, he is fantastic, very helpful and informative, also replies quite quickly too.

Another option is a Radian, which is supposed to be coming into the country sometime soon, this has the benefit of extended RFing, although I don't actually know too much about it TBH. There is a great thread on the Carseat forum on the Nappy Network all about this seat which has awesome info. It's right up the top

We also had the Graco capsule and our DD got too big for it way earlier than 12 months. We bought the Brio and I don't think she will be RF till she is 4 but in the mean time she is safe as. We weren't too worried if she grew out of it sooner as we were going to buy another seat for when #2 was big enough to go into it anyway. At least we know for the mean time she is as safe as she can be.

Anyway if your DS is anything like our DD they will be too long in the leg by the time they grow out of the seat RF anyway. Shes only 19months now and with the seat fittted as back as it will go with the leg extension her feet are hitting the seat. I don't think many other seats will go back much further anyway and if they did the passenger would have no leg room in the front. Go and see Julie at Baby on the move and get her to put the floor model in your car to see how it goes anyway or if you want to come and see ours your more than welcome to. We are in Mosgiel.

I have a brio zento for my son who is tall and chubby and have had now problems with it at all.
I think people say they grow out of the seat because they forget that as the child gets older they can rf the seat in a more upright position which for some reason means the child sit a little further down into the seat. I think that my boy will easily make it to three rf and then we'll go from there as I'm not sure about using it as a boaster (would want to do more research.

This is kind of what we were leaning towards as well. Planning on having another bub in the next couple of years so would have to end up with two seats anyway. Definitely will go and see Julie again to get the carseat (I found her really good when getting the Graco), just wanted to have a better idea of what we wanted and the right questions to ask while we were there.

We were out in Mosgiel too until a few months ago when we had to move into town Mosgiel is a much nicer place to live than in Dunedin! I have to go out to Mosgiel everyday for work anyway but sadly there were no suitable rentals around in Mosgiel when we were looking for a place to move to.

My boy is in the 97th percentile for height, and at 2 years 2 months he still has loads of room to grow We're hoping he can be in it rear-facing til at least 3 years, which is when his little brother will be ready to move from the Safe & Sound into the Brio. At that stage, we'll get Harry a harnessed booster.
Mama to DS1 (5 years), DS2 (3 years) and...
