Topic: Maternity clothes and after baby Posted: 29 April 2010 at 2:38pm |
Well, I timed my two pregnancies all wrong... last time was pregnant over summer, this time over winter, so need some extra things.
Has anyone actually managed to wear their maternity clothes (or just clothes worn during pregnancy) after bub was born? I found that when preggo I want to show off my belly, but once H was born I wanted to hide it. AND, all my clothes have stretched round the middle so no good for after...
So do I just accept that some things will never be worn again and get over it, or try to find those items that can work for after baby? What did you do?

I found my preggy tops great for disguising the big pot belly I had leftover! Plus without the big bump to accomodate any more, the hung a little lower, so skimmed the hips nicely too! Most of my pants had adjustable waistbands (PP are great for those!), so I could just tighten after baby to fit again.

I had my baby at the beginning of December, so last winter I bought tops from glassons just one size bigger than normal and so will wear those again. But anything I wore in the 3rd trimester either got way too stretched to wear now or I was completely sick of anyway and think I wore enough to get my moneys worth anyway! So I say you might wear the stuff you're wearing now later but accept anything bought in the last 3 months won't be worn again and maybe just pass on to a friend if you feel it's still got some wear left in it.
I was so grateful to have 3 friends give me clothes - and even then I was sick of everything!!

empire line tops (cinched under the bust) are great for an expanding bump, and cover the leftovers... leggings can be worn under your bump, then can hold it a bit tighter afterwards.... can get the maternity leggings with the buttonhole elastic... and also TWH has that shapewear underwear things... i might be heading that way soon, waist hips and thighs for me lol.

I had a couple of things that I wore heaps while preggy and then lived in for a couple of months after and they are now being worn for preggy #2. The first is Mobea 3/4 black merino pants, so comfy, didn't not go out of shape, hides the belly after birth, and they still look like new. The other was a mama2b hoody that buttons down the the front low enough to breast feed, also did not loose its shape. The other was maternity jeans that had buttons at the waist, they were max ones, found them good after cos they looked normal, not with big stretchy waistband.
So guess I found that those few quite expensive pieces of clothing were an investment so to speak and I am def getting my monies worth out of them.

I have a few maternity dresses that I still wear, nice and comfy! I wore alot of dresses and tights and some of them are still OK. Because it was warmer I could get away with that, but being a bit cooler now Im not too sure?

I kept wearing my bottoms (so skirts and pants) but needed new tops as I went for the stretchy mat ones rather than loose ones...
I am off to Glassons next week as I noticed a top in there that would be great both now and after and should be relatively easy for bf.... One in each of the the 3 colours... So am keeping my original mat bottoms and getting some new tops.

This is the main reason I've gone to Kmart and Warehouse to get leggings and stretchy pants and I've gone early so I can get the most use out of them. Empire line tops seem to still be the fashion.

I just bought things that were stretchy or in a bigger size, none of them seem to have stretched too much and I am still mostly wearing my "pregnancy" clothes now.
I did splurge and buy a couple of pants and some skirts from the PP maternity line, but they were low cut, so I'm also able to wear them all now too, they're not stretched at all thank goodness. Should still be all good for when we get round to number 2

I can't wear any of my maternity stuff anymore. I wore them for the first 2 weeks after Isla was born cause I still looked pregnant but now now my belly hs gone, the tops especially are way too stretched looking. I just wore leggings and long shirts etc when pregnant but had a pair of Dorothy Perkins Mat. Jeans as well but they are too loose now too. Will save them for #2.....
