Topic: anyone have or heard of this? Scan result Posted: 03 August 2006 at 6:34am |

Ok i have had my bawl, and I have done some research on the internet so will post this here and in due in March forum too (although now possibly Feb) some help please as all the archives for forums like this on this topic for ladies with what i have found out I have either didnt post or didnt complete to term..
I went and did my Ultrasound this afternoon. There is a baby - yes one! and it is in the right place and measures good etc.
BUT
I have a bicornuate uterus - a uterus with two horns. Apparently I would have been born with this and never known until now. the guy saw it straight off -before he found the baby even.
Well so far i have found that it means the womb is smaller, heart shaped (yeah cute!) but baby more likely to mc, be breech and come a month early....the womb cant expand for the baby
anyone else know anything about this or share my (new found) condition.... AND what I really want to know - have any ladies here got this same condition and carried to term with their first baby? Apparently it gets a little better each pregnancy? Good or bad I do want to be informed....
Oh why cant i just be normal?

I have heard of it before but I don't think it is too common. I know that you can get it to varying degrees. If you do a search thru past topics, I am pretty sure there was a woman here in the past with the same condition, maybe you could track it down?

Hmmm, seems Emma had the same idea as me (just reading the other thread) ... Have had a quick look but I can't find it, I do remember she didn't spell it bicornuate, but I can't remember how she did spell it... Don't worry! We'll find it for you!!

Hey Bombshell,
I have read the other thread, and she has had 2 healthy babies, so being the optimist, I am going to say, your baby will be fine, and although maybe born early, there will be no problems!
Take care and rest up, thinking of you

Sorry to hear that Bombshell...
Ofcourse it is scarey, I would be scared too, but I guess the only thing to do is take it one day at a time - and think positive and take comfort from teh fact that other people have had lovely healthy babies with this condition...
Take care...I hope you find some answers (and some comfort) soon!

am so glad that your baby is well and growing bombshell. i am sure your midwife has some info on it that she will be able to give you. Plus, the fact you have had a positive ultrasound is good news isnt it? you know for a fact that baby is there
hope you manage to find the information you need.

Hey big hugs to you!
As others have said, we are all here for you and will be praying/wishing/sending good vibes for a positive outcome.
It is scary but I'm sure everything will be fine, it's good that baby is doing well and that it has been picked up as now you will have the best possible care.
Take care

Hey Bombshell, Step away from Google!!! Honestly, the majority of the stuff you will read on the internet will freak you out a lot more than you possibly should be freaked. Talk to your LMC and ask for a referral to an obstetrician (which they are probably doing for you already anyway). They will be able to give you expert advice relevant to your situation.
Best wishes, thoughts and prayers. and again STEP AWAY FROM GOOGLE!!!

Sorry to hear your news Bombshell - thinking of you and sending you lots of best wishes. Try and keep positive - it is great to hear about the other person who had two healthy babies. Take is one day at a time and remember the Midwife and specialists will be doing all they can to keep monitoring you and bubs.

Hi Bombshell,
I just posted in the other thread too, and I'm the daughter of a mum with a pretty severely separated bicornate uterus (when she had her hysterectomy a few years ago the surgeon took lots of lovely pics to put into text books!).
Anyway, just wanted to say that my mum managed to have me, so don't give up! :)
She did have a few m/cs and I was a premmie, so it wasn't all easy, but I'm worth it (hahahaha).
30 yrs ago when mum was trying, I don't think as much was known, and they definitely didn't know how split her uterus was until the hysterectomy! So things have also come a long way since then.
Best of luck, and I hope that since you have been found to have the bicornate uterus at a fairly early stage they will be able to do a lot more for you.

Oh and Bombshell, Just because the specialists may think you are an exciting case, it doesn't mean that they can turn your appointments into a three ringed circus full of med students and other doctors. Under the patient code of rights (it will be up on the wall at your hospital and can probably be found on the Ministry of Health website) you have the right to be seen in privacy and refuse to have extra students, hangers on around. Remember this is a sensitive time for you and your family and it shouldn't be made traumatic by over-excited doctors. If you don't feel comfortable telling them off, get a support person who does a good grumpy face (or a hospital advocate) on your side to assert your rights.

thanks - funnily enough emeldee i am the daughter of a nurse who has grown up around med students to the point that that wouldnt actually bother me - i take peace in knowing ten heads is better than one. Im weird that way i know but when i had my appendix out i was the centre for med students as mum permitted it and i was ok with it...maybe practiced for now huh?
I just want this bubs to hang on in there....that worries me more than anything else...
