We flea our cat regularly, usually with Advantage from vets but last few times with 'spot on' from the supermarket as money is tight! It hasn't seemed to have worked I have had lots of bites and have spotted a couple critters, YUCK I'm getting itchy just writing this! So far haven't seen any bites on DD luckily.
So my question is, assuming we bite the bullet and flea fur baby with Advantage ASAP, how do I go about making sure there are no fleas left in the house, in the carpets etc in a way that's safe for baby?
I will re wash all bedding etc but think best to wait until after floors are treated?
Any experience or advice would be greatly appreciated!

Sprinkle borax through the carpet it kills fleas. A garlic clove in your cats waterbowl helps keep fleas away or a tsp of vinegar in 250ml of water.

Oh yeah you could mix up white vinegar and water and spray your cat every couple of days. Cat isn't enthusiastiv about it but cheaper than Advantage and it works

And stop using spot on! Its active ingredient is to poisonous cats. A lot of cats react badly to it. It is absorbed into the blood stream and will damage the cats kidneys and liver. Advantage and frontline stay in the oily layer of the skin so lot safer.

Plus spot on only kills the adult fleas, so all the eggs and larvae which are around will soon hatch and you will be back to square one. If you are going to use a product on your pet use one that kills all stages of the flea, so the pet isnt dropping eggs all round your house to hatch and breed.

thanks :) I will try the borax and garlic... not so sure my cat would be keen on being sprayed every few days though, and he's already feeling put out over DDs arrival!
oops sorry just checked the pack again, its not spot on its vita pet triple active flea control... I did check before I bought it to make sure it killed fleas, eggs and larvae which it claims to! but thats good to know about spot on, how horrible def won't ever using that!

We just use Advantage on all our cats and dogs and have never ever had a flea bite. The advantage also kills worms which is an added bonus!

We use revolution and I have discovered that we don't have to apply it as reguarly as the packet says too. I forgot one month and didn't realise until both cats were about 3 or 4 weeks overdue to be treated and not a flea in sight! So now I do every second month and it seems to be working. With the cold weather we don't need to do them at all!

Well our cat drinks out of the toilet if we forget to shut the lid, so don't think garlic water would taste more weird than that hehe. Maybe his smelly breath will keep the neighborhood cats away too! Actually I suspect one of the mangy mongrels that hang around might be bringing in the fleas, have seen them come into the house a few times. And come to think of it havent actually seen on flea ON our cat. Grrrr!
Well going to get some Advantage today anyway, must be worth the extra money because have never had any problems when we have used it before and we foster cats too! I wonder if you get borax from the supermarket?
We just shampooed the carpet a few months back but may have to do again if the problem persists, what a pain!
