Topic: 29weeks and LOTS of BH Posted: 21 June 2010 at 4:22pm |
Hey guys since i hit 28 weeks iv been having ALOT of braxton hicks contractions...and no thats not counting the fun induced ones hehe
I get them while sitting at the computer and stuff but mostly when im walking around or active. I went to the P&C show yesterday and i had quite a few!!! more than ever before.
is this normal and does the increased amount at any point mean anything about when baby might come, e.g. early or anything?? im just curious if there is any link between the two??
thanks

No link that I am aware of Every woman gets them from 6 weeks though dont feel them that early or at all!
I tend to get them more frequently and intensely if I have been quite active, on ,my feet all day...

Hi, I was getting BH all the time at about your stage (or a little earlier), they were quite uncomfortable at times.
My MW just said that it is your body's way of preparing for labour and doesn't really mean much more than that. I went 5 days overdue, although my labour contractions were very effecient apparantly, which I put down to all that bl**dy practice

I had a few up until a bad bout at 32 that landed me in hosp for a false labour, then nothing until she came at 39 weeks.

I am having heaps of them too.... to the point where they stop me in my tracks. They even make me feel a bit sick ... mine are like bad menstrual cramps. God if these hurt contractions will bowl me over!!! haha
I have had them consistently all day for the past 5 days. Not fun .... along with the morning sickness which has returned :o(

I had loads of them all the time the whole way through the last trimester and went into labour 10 days past my due date. I also had the period pain ones about 3 weeks before - so was bummed I was late as was hoping it meant I'd be a little early or on time.

I am only 23 weeks and have been having what I think are braxton hicks for a few weeks. This is my 2nd pregnancy so apparently it is common to feel them sooner. I didn't feel them at all in my first pregnancy because of where my placenta was I think, or perhaps because my stomach muscles were more in control.
In my case it feels like my stomach goes hard and it is a feeling of pressure rather than pain. But I can feel the pressure on my back at the same time. It only lasts for a few seconds, and then stops.
I am going to ask my OB about them when I go. I was worried, but they have been happening once or twice a day for several weeks and nothing else has happened so am assuming they must be BHs.

Would really like some thoughts on my last post - the main thing I'm worried about is the feeling of intense pressure on my lower back at the same time. None of the sites on braxton hicks mention that.
There is no pattern to them, they only last a few seconds, and they don't increase in intensity, and there are no other symptoms to imply it is real labour. As mentioned before, this has been going on for several weeks so if it was labour it would surely have happened by now.
Am just concerned about why I am getting such intense braxton hicks at such an early stage(23 weeks). It is a week until I see my OB. I e-mailed him a few weeks ago to try and describe it, but he said it sounds like a normal pregnancy and I am probably just feeling the babies movements more uncomfortable than I did in my first pregnancy.
feel like I'm going to drive myself mad.

I suppose the pressure on your back could be due to the way the baby is lying or facing iygwim?
My friend is 36 weeks pregnant and her baby has only just moved from the posterior position but she had a lot of back pain with her BHs.
Definitely talk to your OB about it but that's just was happening to my friend.

Kazzam I get that back pressure sometimes with the BH I am experiencing, not always but I think it depends on where he's lying when the uterus starts contracting. If his head is nestled in my spine I seem to get more back pressure. Hopefully it's just bub's position!

I had lots of BH in both pregnancies starting from around 16weeks. They were really strong and i could sometimes feel them in my back.
I did find that i experienced more aches and pains with the second pregnancy and my MW told me that it was normal to get more achey the more pregnancies you have.
Saying all that i went overdue with my first and early with my second so no pattern there, but both were nice and quick labours so hopefully the BH helped with that.

Hi, thanks for the recent posts - really helpful. I printed off a good article which lists the differences between real contractions and braxton hicks, so every time I start to get a bit worried I refer back to it.
The Bounty book they give you is a bit naff really as it doesn't mention braxton hicks until much later, but i read on the net it is very common to have them from quite an early stage and they become more noticeable from 20 weeks onwards.
I do think this being my second pregnancy is making everything different - I have felt the baby movements very strongly this time, and am definitely getting a lot more aches and pains ie stabbing pains in my side, round ligament pain, back ache, leg ache....it goes on!

Contractions imo were very different to BH. They say you will know when you are in labour the difference, I only knew because my waters broke first but they were different to BH.
