I have just been reading the meningitis matters magazine that they sent to my husband to get his business to support them(which I think a great idea and he just brushed of).its is going on bout a different kind of called pneumococcal meningitis...that apparently is really common but is not vacinated for......yet there is vaccine........there is story bout a lady whose 5wk old daughter just died within hours of getting it....it bloody freaks me out!!!!!!!!makes me want to hide my kids away from the world!!!Does anyone else ever get struck by the thought that you may oneday lose one of your children???Its a horrible thought and makes me feel sick to my stomache but sometimes I just get so paranoid!!!there seems so many terrible things out there that can harm our kids.Sometimes I think I should stop reading little treasures and thats life stories cause man there is some tragic stories in them....am I just weird that I worry like this so much?

A guy from my primary school got meningitis - although at the time all I knew was that he was away from school for a long time - and became deaf.

BTW, I still freak out that one of the kids has died, before I go to bed each night I give them a little prod, just to make sure.

i had to get up to check on x last night, just because i had "one of those" thoughts and so couldnt rest till i knew she was ok.
Think it is a preogative of being a mother, so just go with it :)

i was thinking of a family trip we would like to make to paihia, and as you do, was musing the logistics of baby and toddler etc. In my mind (does anyone else map everything out in their heads or is that just me? ) i thought dh could take x out on the dolphin viewing boats - and then had a bloodchilling vision of her falling overboard.....no more sleep for me
Lyla - mum to

I worried about that when we went to austalia, what if he got bitten by a spider or snake etc. When we went to seaworld i worried he would fall into the water and there would be a shark or dolphin that might get him or he would drown. For a while i was having really vivid dreams where he we would be out with family members (sometimes my sister sometimes my dad etc) and he would almost drown but I managed to just save him. In one it was a jetboat my dad was driving and he crashed it, hubby didnt protect Kobe so I had to and was only able to hold on to him by his foot as we all went underwater. odd dreams like that for about a month.

I used to hate going to check Paris, especially when she was really little, she has always been a deep sleeper and we now know the reason for her having such bad circulation.. we would go in and she would be white, and blue around her lips, always had cold hands, and slept so deeply that she would hardly move at all when breathing.. I would prod her all the time. Mike used to really upset me cos he used to joke about going in to make sure she was still alive.. that realy really got me angry each time he said it.

Now i still go check them, 1) because i now know about paris's heart defect.. and there are sometimes that my motherly instincts just won't listening my medical knowledge reasoning in my head, and 2) because Ayja tends to be a very restless sleeper and will often muck around in bed fall asleep sitting up, (ends up slumped against her teddys) or just gets tangled in all sorts of weird positions.

I think i have had a few ick dreams, but usually involving someone getting in to the house and doing something to mike and i'm left alone to fend for me and the kids.

It is part of our bedtime ritual to go and check Joey. The last thing we do before gertting in to bed is go and check Joey together and stare adoringly at him for a few minutes (after checking he is still breathing and/or positioning him comfortably again) I think/thought most parents probably do this???

I got the viral meningitis when I was 9 years old. All I remember is feeling really funny and falling asleep. I didn't stay in a ward as they got to it so fast just over night in ED. I always go in a check on Andrew before I go to bed to make sure he is covered and asleep. DH will do the same if he goes to bed a long time after me.
I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived!

I check Maya every time Iget up to go to the toilet (which atm is A LOT ) especially now that her room is further away from ours.

I still get paranoid when she goes out alone in the car with Willie too. Not that I don't trust his driving (he's a truck driver so he's pretty experienced) more that I am paranoid that if they have a crash and I'm not there I'll lose both of them. I don't worry the same when I am in the car with them and he's driving tho.

Oh and when she was first in daycare at 5 mths my classroom overlooked the daycare and I used to stare over there an imagine seeing an ambulance come to get her coz something had happened to her coz I was such a bad mother for leaving her. The one time daycare did ring me I just about leapt out of my skin. I saw teh # on the caller ID and was almost too scared to answer it. Turns out they just wanted to check what dose of medication she was having.

I am such a nut.

I'm not the worlds worst flyer but what amazed me was that last time we flew to Aussie as a family I was really good - I remembered thinking at the time that if anything happened to us at least we would be together and that was strangely comforting. Yeah nothing happened!

SIDS is very worrying especially has it can happen to kids aged 2 or 3 or whatever....very worrying

i was so worried about jack this morning i almost worked myself up into a state!
he wasn't happy last night so put him to bed dosed up with panandol. he slept til almost 10am this morning! usually wakes about 7am and when i went in to check on him he popped his head up and just said 'water'.
i got him out of bed and he was soooo hot, had dried snot stuck to his face (TMI yum!) and had trouble balancing and his hands were all shaking!!!
after a sit down and cuddle, banana and lots of water he stopped shaking and came right.
still has a fever though and fluid in the ears so the doc said, but all we can do is keep up with the panadol

I'm a complete worrier. I check on Joshie all the time - esp if he hasn't made a noise for at least half an hour. I have the monitor with me almost all the time - and right beside my side of the bed at full volume at night. I worry so much about SIDS, about illness, about EVERYTHING I try not to, but I love him so much I just can't bear the thought of anything happening to him. Gotta learn to chill out!

i was like that too clare when jack was younger. you do learn to 'chill out' abit as they get older but there's nothing wrong with worrying about your kids
