Topic: Night time feeds - How many? Posted: 16 August 2006 at 12:35pm |
Hi ladies,
Just wondering what was the "norm" for how many times you are being woken to feed your bubs?
Caitlin will have a big feed at 10pm I go to bed after this one, then she wakes at 12am and 3am then we don't hear from her until about 7am. I thought I was pretty lucky that I'm only being woken twice a night?!?!
Also, any tips on what I'm doing wrong? For her 12am and 3am feeds it takes me AGES (hour and a half almost)to get her back to sleep! Our routine is change nappy, feed, burp, then resettling.
I've stopped talking to her during these times (midwife advice) and made the day time and evening feeds more interactive - Not sure what else I can do?!!?!?
Ta

I don't feel as though I can give much advice, but we have our last feed at 10pm too, and usually only get woken once before morning - so far it has been around the 3am mark. Good luck with finding a solution though hun !

Sounds great Toni. What i did with my girls was to not turn the light on. Just have enough light so i could make things out. Not talk and not make eye contact. I would do the nappy change halfway through the feed then give the other breast that way they were always drunk and really sleepy and would just nod straight off.

Sounds pretty good, we only get woken once or twice as well. And we do what Maria does as well - feed half, change nappy and feed again, quick burp and they're dopey enough to fall asleep reasonably quickly after that hehe.

Well its prob a bit early for me to comment, but we have finally made it 3 hourly feed's at the moment. So I am up again at about 12am and 3am it seem's to be working well I do hte same as the other's make night time feed as quiet andnon interactive as possible. Again it is really only early day's for us so i expect Michael will change his mind at some point.

Ella normally sleeps about 5 - 6 hours then wakes for a feed then goes to sleep and wakes about 8am but last night she woke at 1am then 6am and is being a diva today!

Kelly we had the same "problem" with feeding as Caitlin was such a big girl... it has slowly spaced itself out to approx 3hours (4 if I'm REALLY lucky)!
Just make sure you eat heaps of good stuff as I found that my blood sugars were very low and I felt like crap for the first 2 weeks (C-Section didn't help either I guess)

Ben is the same Kelly, with the 2 hourly feeds. He's been jaundiced too so I haven't tried to space them out at all. I don't know if I could anyway, I wouldn't have the heart to listen to him cry for an hour while he's still so little!!

Lycan has had a really bad day today, he has only had one sleep all day. He's a bit upset im not sure if its wind or if he has an upset tummy.
Ayway back to the topic at hand...Afer he is put down at 10pm he usually wakes between 2:30 and 3:00 and at 6:00 and then he doesnt get up till 10:00am. I feed him first, give him a burp, change his nappy, give him the other side and then another burp by that time he is ready to go back to bed.

Eat lots! But apparently lots of protein (to make milk good quality) and lots of calcium is best (so the babe doesn't drain your poor bones of calcium!). Snack on nuts while feeding. That was suggested by my midwife.

and carbs too apparently. And always have snack bars handy in your nappy bag.. I learnt that one the hard way, almost passed out after growth spurt #2!
